right lads, I need some advice...
I'm fairly technical but no NOTHING about the features on modern in-car SAT NAVs.
I know the two big brands are Garmin and TomTom.
I need one that will show the speed limit of the road I am on, and beep if I overspeed etc. I think this is a feature? Also, if this is the case, how often do these companies update the maps to update the speed limits on certain roads etc. For example, would a GPS receiver know that the M50 speed limit is 60kph for the past year?
Basically I was gonna buy a laser/radar detector, but they are the same money as a GOOD sat nav, so may as well just buy a sat nav that has speedlimits built into it.
any advice at all appreciated as I know FA about it. thanks lads..

If your still intersted in Radar/laser detector? I have one for sale at a reasonable price, Snooper S5-R, still in original packaging. Got it after picking up 3 points for speeding, saved my bacon a few times

If you go for a Garmin, the same models go up in price depending on maps installed! huge difference for same machine, i have the latest European maps and can hook u up if it has an SD port:D,
Not mad about Tomtom and garmin infairness, have one myself, i have seen Jap sat nav's that are far far far more advanced responde ten times faster etc.. ill find out the name for ye but basically your payin for the Name Garmin;), as far as i know there's two Navigation mapsources tomtom uses one and garmin uses the other, at the moment the Garmin uses the more accurate one for Ireland i've been told, the Jap one my mate has he only payed 150euro's for, displays 3-D buildings in Dublin and everything:D.

cheers lads... Finers, I went for the nuvi 205(w) with UK and Ireland maps, and yep it has a SD slot, so perhaps I might borrow the european maps at some stage...
Cheers!!!
I have heard some of them have the 3d buildings and all that, but from what I could see it was only the top of the range ones, nothing in the 100 - 200euro price band. thats not that big a deal for me anyways. I suppose it will be the norm in a few years.
