I got some spray tins made up and also a touch up bottle (from Halfords N.I so it's solvent based not crappy water based like down here)

I used the code A34 (my shade of silver, right?)

Problem is the paint in the touch up bottle (100ml) looks more grey than silver, is this normal? might they have messed up?

Try a sample first colm but in general spray paint looks different when in the bottle and when it dries it changes colour slightly too a bit. Just make sure before you put it on the car.

The (old solvent based) touch-up paints we have at work are usually pretty close to the actual colour. Maybe it's the fact that it's a frosted bottle and there's a lot of paint in there makes the paint look darker. Will be using a white primer anyway (if that makes a difference)

Guy offered to do both side skirts for 120 quid today. maybe that's the way to go. I'll have a go and if I mess it up, there's an alternative

Dont think the primer actually makes much of a difference, once you put on enough coats of the final colour the primer wont come through at all, it would only be if you used one coat of final colour on the primer would you see a difference I think. Chance it yourself anyway first, could save E120!

I got the same made up from Halfords a couple of years back - it didn't resemble the real A34 colour on my FTO at all. Use with extreme caution or have the turps handy to remove if necessary.

I took it back and the guy gave me my money back (and let me keep the paint - which was good for nothing anyway)

The steel silver is a very hard paint to match.
FWIW I have a tin in the shed I had made up when I got work done on my FTO - a perfect match and will cost anyone interested a donation of their choice to the club. :wink:

I got some paint made up in vinny byrnes on the kylemore rd. It is A34 and is a good match to the original. They do a spray can or you can get it in a tin. It cost me €35 for a spray can of the paint, primer, and laquer. I thought that that was fairly reasonable.

Cheers Colm, but if you're planning on using it in the near future, you can take it away. I'm a bit skint at the mo, so even though I want to get parts resprayed, its not priority at the moment.

Checked the tin last night - and there isn't a full tin of it there - probably just about 350ml. Useful for touchups etc but you won't go spraying a set of side skirts or anything like that.

I'll drop it into Tom - if Colm needs a bit then he knows where its at.

I'm not stuck for it, just a small bit would be good for touch-ups etc. my guy has changed over to water based paints at this stage anyway.

Thats sound, I can pass it on to Colm at the next meet and get it off him again whenever, as I say there's no real rush.
