Tappets will need seeing to if theres a 'tickity, tickity' sound coming from the engine, if you've ever heard a sewing machine on full song, thats the sound you're looking out for.

Just to clarify, if you have a GR, then you can't adjust the tappets, either quieten them with some top end treatment (Forte are one manufacturer) or replace them completely (5 or 600 quid). If you've a GPX then get a reputable mechanic such as Paul Nolan to adjust them for you.

I was going to have a go at this - Paul Nolan advised against it because it's much harder than people say - he reckoned if you're gonna go to all the trouble of digging out the lifters you should just replace them. He also said that unless they are really bad you should just do an oil change with a good additive which will solve the problem - it worked for me - car was ever so quiet after the last oil change - I used forte top end treatment as well.

I'm gonna change the oil and give it a top end treatment. I don't trust myself that much just yet.

Ordered my new wheels today but will take about a week to arrive (mmm...) many other parts on the way as well.

Watch this space!!!!

Postby speedy » Fri Aug 20, 2004 8:47 am

What is the best top end treatment to use to reduce noisey tappets?
Going to service the car this weekend.

As great as camskills are - Funky products have it for only £12.95

Kevin,

Yeah, I picked up a set of 17" TSW Ribs of a site in England for £420.00 all in which worked out about €645.00. Not to bad considering!!

Didn't take a wheel & Tyre package as I have a mate in a tyre company here in town. Must speak to her to see if she can knock up a special deal for you guys on the forum. :D

Diddler, it would be great if you could sort something out with a discount for forum members. Remember, we like Eagle F1's and Proxes T1's :)

The website is www.tyresave.co.uk

The contact is Duncan, I got them shipped to my brothers address in Newry, N. Ireland and it only cost £20.00 otherwise it could be between £45-£150

Good enough selection at keen enough prices - I looked around for about 2 weeks.

Hope this helps
