poxy led replacements

Postby paul2508 » Sun Mar 09, 2008 8:05 pm

hey peeps. o bought straight replacements led bulbs off ebay. the set covers all dials and clock and voltmeter. only thing is none off the bloody things fit only the voltmeter. the ones for the aircon buttons are too small the clock one doesnt fit. didnt bother with the speedo dials cos i know it will be a waste of time. anyone ever get that feeling where when nothing goes right for you it puts you on a big downer. although i bought a set of glow dials, ill still need the bulbs for aircon unit. does anyone know of places where they do ultra bright led straight replacements other than poxy ebay. cheers peeps

If you really want to change your aircon, check my guide. It's a time consuming but easy process and you'll be extremely happy with the results...

Paul if they don't fit in accordance with what the seller was stating in his listing you should tell him...let him know that he's not advertising correctly...let him know that you'd like a refund..

In terms of the aircon, voltmeter and clock, sinlessgunner's step by step guide is very good. Unfortunately for me, I changed mine just before that guide went up (would certainly have just followed that otherwise). If you just want a quick fix though (not as nice as sinlessgunner's, but still fine) the replacement bulbs off the FTO owners club shop in the UK fit great, and are very quick to install. I got the red ones, but they do the original white and blue too. 4 bulbs for the aircon, and one each for voltmeter and clock. £7.99 if I remember, +£2 for postage. :)

Yes, same size, and more importantly, they have the same moulded base, so its just a matter of twisting out the old bulbs, and twisting on the new.

The way I done it seems more complicated than it is and plus if you are happy with the aircon screen's original colour then its a simple job to just make the buttons a diff colour. Very little wiring involved with that because the Halford's LEDs are already attached to wires that you just run to the ashtray light. Shouldn't take any more than an hour for someone with little to no experience....

I have to agree with sinlessgunner, its not a massive job either way, if you haven't taken apart the centre console, just take time and care not to crack it. Disconnecting the wires at the back is not a big deal, and with the connectors all different shapes, you can't put them back the wrong way, so no worries there. Both methods are fairly easy, save maybe the aircon screen ( :?: sinless, you might confirm/disagree with this? ), so its personal choice. Personally, if I was doing it again, I'd choose the sinlessgunner effect, very bright, and you can have different colours in different buttons.

I should copyright that :D haha!

But yeah the aircon screen is very complicated the way I did it. Saying that it could be just as easy as the buttons if you can find a way of keeping them in position behind the screen. That was my problem. If you can find a way around that you're laughing you could have the whole lot done in a very short time....

6 in that pack.

I got the red ones, probably not as bright as you would get from Sinlessgunners set up, but I was happy enough with it. The buttons are fine, but in the daylight the aircon screen is a bit dim, but I suspect the red lights are to blame here, white could be better.
