manual is easier on fuel than tiptronic. shorter gear ratios and power loss through the autobox are responsible.

If you have been driving cars that have been less than 2l in the past then you will immediately feel that the FTO is heavy on juice. If you then decide to drive it with a little bit of spirit it will be even harder.
