Thanks MyFeckin, i don;t mind the ride on the 40's so think ill stick with them as i'm only ordering / can afford two at this time :( "Student life", On to the next question reading this thread it seems fast fit and few other places won't fit them as were being smart and not purchasing them in rip off Ireland!! tires on camskill = 80euro, eire tyres 125euro,

Anyone know of a good place near Portmarnock that do a good service?, would Paul Nolan offer fitting and balancing i wonder?

2x F1's = 185 incl postage
eireTyres = 250.

makes me a bit mad seeing the price difference.

Are you going for the new asymmetric ones?
I have them and have no complaints.

The GSD3's are still an excellent tyre, I'm considering putting a set on the RX-8 when the time comes (based on feedback from other 8 owners).

Finers, go check eiretyres.com and locate a fitter in your area:

Bernard on 40 profile camskill don't do the new Asymmetric F1, and am kind of happy sticking with 40's,
Going to order them tonight, still can't relay decide on 40's or 45's, would 45' on front and 40's on back work for a few months until all are changed? not sure what difference a larger tyre would have on performance etc.

CJ: my mate has his car up with Paul getting a turbo fitted and asked him to ask Paul about fitting tyres for me, said he 'd get his mate across the way to do them and balance for a good price, i'm goina give im a bell tomorrow and will let you know re-price, is 20euro the norm per tyre?

I think €15 - €20 is the going rate. Obviously we would be very happy with a €15 rate to have them done, so you could mention this figure to him.

Malahide tyres charge €5 per tyre fitted and balanced. They are quite professional there too. I was up with them today getting my alignment done and I ask them if I bought tyres on-line would the fit and balance them for me and they said yes, a fiver a tyre. I thought that was good value.

While we're on the topic of tyre fitting - is it possible to just take tyres (used) off one set of alloys and refit them to an alternative set (same size of course) ?

I seem to remember a tyre guy telling me before that this didn't work too well as it was difficult to make the seal again. Anyone got any experience of this - should it be a problem ?

Tyres arrived today must say congrads to camskill next day delivery,

I was reading up on articles on F1's there seemed to be major issues with diffrent standards being imported!!
And not just GoodYears, Toyo's aswell.

The article about the F1's if your not aware was that they are made in three different countries, Germany ,China , Thailand, the E13 marking was missing digits after it, got me a bit concerned mine have the digits after the E marking but are made in Thailand, according to the thread below different compounds can be used for different climates, depending on country manufacturing them.

One of many threads about it!!
http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-gene ... ers-2.html

Conclusion i got was if no digits appear after E13 marking the tyre may not be up to EU standards, mine has them but as stated has come from Thailand,

Anyone can shed light on this issue would be great, anyone have F1's produced in Thailand?

Don't know the exact details, but I know when I got my F1 Asymmetrics that they said there were good and bad ones depending on where they were made. Sounds familiar that the ones in Germany were good and ones in one of the other countries weren't the same quality at all.

I have 215/40 17 on my car at the moment, and the sidewall looks too small. 205/40 is gonna look awful, being a 10mm smaller sidewall.

Need to replace my 4 tyres now. want a fairly meaty looking tyre this time. any issues with 225mm tyres and Apex springs?

what profile should I get? don't want an oddball size that's gonna be hard to get. would 225/45 R17 be huge on the FTO, they're standard fitment on a lot of VW stuff.

MODEL NAME: TOYO TYRES / CAR / TOYO CF1 TOYO CF 1 - 225/45R17 94W XL TL

4 of these working out at 336 delivered. (camskill) any good?

Just a quick update on delivered prices for 4 tyres (camskill) if anyone's interested:

205/45/17
Toyo Prox €363.89
Avon ZZ3 €314.79

235/40/17
Toyo Prox €404.30
Avon ZZ3 €362.16

215/45/17
Toyo Prox €316.53
Avon ZZ3 € 325.66

225/45/17
Toyo Prox € 343.04
Avon ZZ3 € 320.44

I just chose those two as I've heard good things about Proxs and the Avon's are in the same price range, would be leaning towards the Toyos (which seem to have gone up €7 since yesterday on the 225/45)

I'm leaning towards the 215/45 Toyos (same size as Hyundai Coupe, sidewall looks big enough)

205/40 vs 215/40 doesn't equate to a difference of 10mm in the sidewall height - it'll only be about 2mm.
215/40 vs 215/45 does mean an extra 10mm+ alright.

225/45 17's will fit but be prepared for a little scrubbing on full lock (dependant on rim offset) - a couple of tie binds to lift the wheel arch liner out of reach may be neccessary.

Wont the sidewalls be the same size no?? The 215 and the 205 is the width of the tyre I thought, the 40 is the thickness of the tyre wall, so they're both the same.

the 40 is the aspect ratio and is a percentage of the tyre width, a 195/40 would have a much smaller sidewall than a 255/40

You're right Shane, just miscalculated that one :D

I've just gotten 4x Potenza re050 delivered for 403gbp from camskill. Very quick delivery...and nice bloke to talk to on the phone as well.

Sadly they're going on the opc and not one of my cars ;-)

I know what you mean, wouldn't it make so much more sense if that was actually how it was measured! I guess there must be some reason for it but I've no idea what that might be.

Strange - I phoned them today and was given a price of €15 per tyre for fitting and balancing if I bring my own tyres. Anything special need to be said in order to get them to give a €5 per corner rate ??
