Exhaust Advice

Postby Wildhound » Wed Dec 23, 2009 2:59 pm

On my last FTO and now on my current one I've had a problem with aftermarket stainless exhausts. Because they're not bolted on and are just hooked on to those little rubber dealies they have a tendancy to come loose, particularly in wet or icy weather. This results in the exhaust being improperly aligned and in some cases even rattling or banging when going over bumps. I have to keep getting under the car to hook them back on every couple of days which is really annoying.

Just wondering if I'm really unlucky or have others had this problem, and if so does anyone have a quick fix? I'd blame myself for fitting it incorrectly only I didn't fit the one on the new car. ;)

Had this problem with a Mongoose exhaust. Solution is to cable tie the hangers to the supports. A more long term solution is to use some wire (i.e. coat hanger) to secure them in place, the cable ties will eventually break.

That's a fairly straightforward solution! Cheers CJ, I'll get on it.

Better than a cable tie is one of those pipe clamp bands - cost about €1
I've had a couple of these on my Mongoose for years now - solid !
