Security that still works if they get your keys!

Postby adrian » Tue May 23, 2006 8:37 am

Hi all,

Is there an alarm/immob system that requires not only the keys/fob but something like a 4 digit code to start the vehicle? I know it sounds "gimiky" but alot of cars are being taken with the keys being stolen and hence the alarm/immob/steering locks are useless.

I know I have a tracker that is good for if they take the car but it would be great to stick an alarm in the new jeep that needs a code.

Anyone heard of this and know where I can get one?!

Thanks,

Adrian

The Clifford Concept is what you're after:

You can start the car and drive it off but it will cut out after a short period of time if you don't enter the code.

I got an additional immobiliser put in mine along with the alarm, and it means you need to know how to start the car or it'll just sit there and ignore you. After 3 failed attempts its immobilised for 20-30 minutes.

I've actually shown members of my family how to start the car but they still couldn't, took another showing for them to suss it out.

Meta - http://www.metasystem.co.uk but I don't see the immobiliser listed on the site.

Thing is, the damn things are too secure! I've driven off more than once without keying in the code and the alarm starts going off as you're driving down the road, at that stage, you're too paniced to stick in the code properly and the car cuts out :?
If you key in the code incorrectly 3 times or more, the car won't start for 20mins :? Last night, I started up the car, popped the bonnet and closed the door, as I was having a root around up front, the bleedin' alarm locks the doors (standard practice after a min or two - anti car jacking feature) with the keys in the ignition and the engine running. It was a good thing I was ouside the house with spare keys inside, otherwise I would have been stranded.

They're great alarms, but theres lots to remember when using them.
