Rare manual!!!

Postby Daz » Fri Nov 09, 2007 4:25 am

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the the Rare manual is now becoming the norm soon it should be the Rare Tiptronic, because any car site autotrader/pistonheads/ect the manuals seam to outnumber the tips???

It's one of those annoying turns of phrase that seems to have become the norm when advertising an FTO. If you need to be told that the manual is a rarer comodity then, you are probably not seriously in the market anyway.

That said I find it much less annoying that the other usual phrases (not FTO specific). "No timewaters or tyre kickers"," no cash no test drive"(what does this mean?), "No test pilots" -I saw this on an add for a toyota avensis the other day  -WTF :?: And the latest one doing the rounds abd adopted from UK lingo "motorway miles" -as if the car had never been on a backroad :!: Rant over for now.

HAHA hilarious mustang. :P I always wanted to test pilot an avensis. lol. yeah I have heard the motorway miles thing alot (especially on high milers). yo can ahrdly prove it though, so pointless really. the thing that annoys me MOST about car sellers is how they describe the vehicle. I went to see a couple of honda 2.2 preludes before I got my FTO. they were listed as IMMACULATE. just top clear this up once and for all...

im·mac·u·late (ĭ-măk'yə-lĭt) pronunciation
adj.

1. Impeccably clean; spotless. See synonyms at clean.
2. Free from stain or blemish; pure.
3. Free from fault or error: an immaculate record.
4. Having no markings.

These cars I saw one had a boot full of water and holes where a body kit had been removed. The other had rust in the arches. Immaculate? I wouldn;t even call it very good condition. disgraceful. Thankfully my FTO was actually immaculate. mind you I bought it off a guy who flies to the auctions himself and brings over alot of cars so he is not talking BS when he says immaculate. grade 4.5 or 5 etc.

It's strange alright ....maybe its just that in Ireland more manuals were imported but there was definitely less of them made. When I was importing mine on the site I was using there would be maybe about 20-30 or so FTO's up for sale every week of which you'd be lucky to see 5 manual's.

In my job I go through a LOT of classifieds and the one that really gets me is "lovely driver" or "credit to previous owner".

I couldn't care less if the driver was some sort of serial arsonist, it's the car I'm interested in.

.

There's a particular dealer up north, and every single car he has for sale contains that phrase "a credit to the previous owner". The only deviation being "a credit to the previous lady owner". Like the boy that cried wolf, the effect of the message wares off pretty quickly.

on the way home today I saw a man in his 50s looking at an ALFA 156 for sale at the side of the road near a pub in ballyfermot. I was stopped at lights. the guy walked around the car and kicked every tyre... I couldn;t believe it. people actually decide to buy a car by kicking the tyres... jeeeezsh..

Seeing Clarkson kicking the tyre of a Veyron was one of the most disrespectful things I've seen in the automotive world :smt103

That's how you check the suspension on a 156. if the wheels don't fall off then it's intact.
