Incident

Postby Dean » Fri Dec 12, 2003 5:47 pm

I am a little in shock, still not entirely sure this actually happened.
2pm today, an uninsured kid in a fiesta tried to do a u-turn across 2 lanes of traffic.
Thud.
Main Dealer quote for repair of my FTO - €7780- The kids car was worth a single one of my headlights.
How the hell are they gonna pay for this? THe kid is a decent enough fellow, but he is so damn stupid driving without insurance. Where am I gonna get another GS, especially with all the effort Shane put into it. Gah!
Sorry Shane

I am going to sit in the corner and cry now.

Christ, sorry to hear that Dean :( If its any concelation, at least you wern't injured, cars can be replaced, people can't.

I don't know too much about this but theres a board set up to pay out claims in the event you're invloved in an accident with an uninsured driver, your insurance company should be able to point you in the right direction. The problem here is that it may take a while to get sorted out.

What was the level of damage to the car by the way? Rory might be able to help you out with parts etc. I wouldn't take the dealer quote too seriously, you'd be better off trying to source parts yourself (if thats possible under insurance terms) than paying a stupid amount of money to a dealer.

Jeez Dean, I am really sorry to hear about that :( .

Whatever else, if you haven't already done so, just make sure that the police have a record of the accident and all the details. Regardless of how nice the kid is he made the decision to drive without insurance and he'll have to deal with whatever comes out of this. And he's put you up sh*t creek. (This will be critical for ANY claim that you make).

I understand that there is a compensation fund that all the insurances companies have, to cover accidents where one party isn't insured. I have no idea how it works and it may take a long time but it might be worth your while talking to your own insurance company about it.

The best of luck.

Damage;

Front bumper - Like crsuhed tinfoil (no chance of salvage)
Bonnet - Bent into a v-shape.
Headlights - Fine but broken out of their mounts.
Radiator and Air-con rad - Buckled.

No other noticable damage.
The bonnet and the bumper are crushed, but the number plate ended up 10 metres up the road - Unscratched. Weird. It should have been in mini plastic shards.

It still drives fine. The pull to the left is even gone.
Its just considered a write off.
P.S - €600 per headlight, my god.

Dean mate, so so so sorry to hear this pal. Not good, but as CJ says, cars can be replaced, people can't. I could tell you a few sad stories recently from around home where life the consequence. You're lucky mate, even if it doesn't feel like it.

You have alot of kit on Shanes old GS alright but I think alot of it can be stripped out if the car is going for dismantling and you can throw it into another FTO....mine is for sale at the minute...PLEASE don't think I'm using your misfortune to sell my car, I am not .....just letting you know as am in no rush, but just letting you know it's there.

Keep us posted anyway my friend.

Sorry about your bad luck mate

A precentage of everyones premium goes into a national insurance fund which covers accidents that involve uninsured drivers, I reckon you can claim from that. It takes a long time but should work out ok for you.

Hopefully i can get you trade prices on the rad and the a/c condenser i work in the industry.

Without trying to hijack this post, what is the extent of the parts you have access to Speedyboy?

You beat AXA by a good deal.
Now as long as this lad pays up, I might go have a look at Erics GPX if it is still there when I get the money.
I would much rather a manual though, can everyone keep their eyes peeled :)
Man.. I am fianlly in a good mood since this crash.
Thank ye Dave.

Deal! :)

I gotta find a cheap gpx tho. It will cost a lot to swap the exhaust, springs, shocks. etc. from the old one.

looks like i'll be the only GS owner left in the club, might have to bring the idea of dropping an evo engine into it forward a bit, just to keep on top of the game, that and having a 2litre turbo in the front!!!

Maybe not. My insurance company has put a "Possible Claim Pending" on my ncb cert. It is so not my fault, I have 6 witnesses saying so, but its guilty until proven innocent. THey want a letter from the person at fault absolving me of responsibility. Sigh. Why is it always axa that screws me over. This is gonna take another week to sort out now because of their "making a mountain out of a molehill" policy.
Read my lips AXA.."Not my fault!"

See Deans crashed GS below

I wouldn't consider it written off, in saying that you would have to find someone willing to do the work on it.
