1.8 GS 95 tip box problem

Postby ftokl » Sat May 23, 2009 4:02 pm

Hi all, Car is going into limp mode (3rd) and I'm getting error code 22 on the tip box, which is the input speed sensor.

Ive done the checks in the workshop manual, the sensor checks out ok (continuity and resistance ok) [page 331 of workshop manual].

I found the harness dosnt seem to be supplying the 12v and 5v feeds to the sensor (ignition on, while driving or when ideling). [page 293 of workshop manual].

Ive twiddled the connectors at the ECU side, no go. Havent tested the voltage ECU side yet, as I cant find detailed pin outs for the ECU.

Anyone else come across a problem like this?
Thanks for reading, any help much appreciated as always :)

Enen if the sensor tests out ok as per the manual it could still be faulty. Change it and it will prob sort your problem.
I have some seconhand ones if you neeed them

Cheers steelroe, have pm'ed you.

All the manuals I can find are for the 98 up. I think the 98-on manual has a 3 pin input speed sensor and the 1.8 (94-97) is 4 pin.

Even tho the sensor tests in the 98-on manual are for a 4 pin sensor (strange)... the harness test has only 3 wires, the same is in the wiring diagrams. This may be an error in the manual (?). Also the internal loom is slightly different in the 1.8.

Does anyone know where I can get the wiring diagrams for the 1.8? (or the 94-97 2ltr). I need the diagrams for the a/t box and the front/internal loom, not the engine itself.

Thanks again, K

I've yet to come across either. Suggest you get yourself a copy of CAPs, enter in your chassis code and get the correct p/n for a replacement sensor, it shouldn't be too expensive and is very likely the cause of the problem (assuming the wiring at the plug is intact).

You were both right, got a new sensor yesterday and shes up and running again, no more errors.
For reference, I wouldn't recommend the 98+ manual for sensor testing on the 94+ 1.8.

New sensor, windscreen, tyres and bushes...all ready for the nct!
Thanks for all your help [again!], much appreciated. :D
