major decision to make. someone please help.
GX tiptronic facelift versus GPvR mivec tiptronic facelift.
no better people to ask then the owners. heard enough sales pitches to last a lifetime. please fill me in on the pro's and con's of each model.
cheers

If you're going tiptronic, theres not a whole lot of difference to be honest, that said, the GPvR will have the following touches that are lacking in the GX:

MIVEC ;)
LSD
Version-R spolier
Sideskirts as standard
Front Strut brace
Stiffer suspension as standard

The GPvR is also a lighter car due to some weight saving measures, it has manual aircon whereas the GX has climate control.

I'm sure others will join the debate so I'll leave it up to your own discretion.

thanks CJ. so can i take it thats a discrete nod towards the GPvR. it actually has a lot of things going for it regards the sale too. cheaper, less mileage, already VRT'd, NCT'd, alarm and immobiliser and not to mention its Mivec :D

Yes and no, I'm trying to be objective here ;) On a personal note, I would have the GPvR, the GX is still a fine car though and should not be dismissed. If I were to go down the GPvR route, I would much rather pick up a manual, in my mind, theres not a whole lot of point making a car handle better and go that little bit quicker and then suffering 15% transmission loss by sticking in a tip gearbox.

well at the moment the only GPvR i've seen on the market is a tiptronic. what are the chances of changing the transmission down the line. possible???????

Tymeless you'd be crazy to go down that route, unless of course the gearbox was to fail, even then I'd say you'd be looking at around €2k for a manual conversion.

On the issue of choosing between the GX and GPvR. The GPvR is of course the higher specced car. I'd be looking at the age, condition and price to make a judgement on the relative merits of two cars.

hey mustang.
ok maybe transmission might be a very long way down the road. reards age, condition and price. both the same age. 97. condition its fairly neck and neck. and on price the GPvR is €1000 cheaper.

Hey Tymeless...

I guess the GX would have more 'creature comforts', and probably have a more comfortable ride, but the GPvR would be a bit lighter, a bit more powerful, and handle a bit better.

Nothing wrong with the GX handling having said that.

Its probably down to which u want - more comfort (gotta be the GX) or performance/handling (GPvR).

Personally I'd recommend a manual GR, but hey, I'm biased!

I didn't know the GPvR came with Tip ? Does it have the block colour Front Seats (Red or Blue ?) - normally easiest way to tell an imposter 8)

Condition is everything really - I'd drive both and see which felt better. The sound of the mivec is nice but a GR/GX with induction and exhaust mods will sound better than a standard Mivec. Strut braces, sideskirts and spoilers are easy to add - the LSD less so but not sure of the merits of an LSD on a tip car. The weight difference between GPvR tip and a GX tip would be minimal - in fact I'd say the GX would be lighter.

Base your decision on how either car feels to drive and on what work has been done on the car to date- timing belt, suspension etc.

Tymeless check out this table for a comparison of the GX, GPvR, GPvR aero series in tip guise. Rows in yellow highlight the difference in spec.

had a good look at both today. GPvR wins hands down. GX very basic standard model. needs a serious cash injection on top of hefty asking price plus having to wait a few weeks for VRT and NCT to go through.
on the other hand the GPvR already registered, NCT'd, looks amazing compared to the GX. very well kept car. full service history. 30k miles. 1997. €1300 cheaper than GX. even get new timing belt, white dials, spark plugs and HID bulbs thrown in with the car. full stereo system and unreal alarm system already fitted. i think you know which car i'm gonna go for now....

Looks like you made a good choice - just make sure you get it up on a ramp and fully inspected before you buy - looking forward to seeing some pics.
