Got one too!

Postby Barry » Tue Apr 20, 2004 11:10 pm

Hi All,

Just picked up a Tip 95 GPX. A few of my mates have 1.8 V-Tec Integra's, they insisted that Tips were slooooow...not this one! In fact this is car is silly fast, I'm starting to wonder if someone in Tokyo did some serious engine modding?! Even my mates with the Integra's are shocked

Congratulations Barry. I have to say I agree with you, I've had my first FTO since the middle of last year and I lOVE getting into it every day, heads never stop turnin' and when you put the boot down (even in the tip) she takes off just the way you like..... they are a hard car to beat (In many ways) and I wish you the best of luck with her  .

I actually think that these cars are much faster than people give the credit for. I think the modest low down (sub 3K rpm) torque lulls people into a false idea of the speed. Mine's a tip GR and the acceleration I get when I kick down from 4th to 2nd at about 30(ish) still suprises me...... and a few other drivers too :-) Also accelerating away from the toll booth at the M50 is always fun and I've out dragged a few cars that suprised me. Anyway the day my GR put a 180bhp TT to shame was it's crowning glory..... 5K 10 year old FTO wastes a 35K 2 year old TT (although there wasn't much in it in outright speed/acceleration - it was the handling that won the day).

And by all accounts if you get a good stainless exhaust and decat with a good induction kit the cars responsiveness can be transformed - or so I'm told <shane hangs head in shame for not having a stainless exhaust with decat>

MMMMMMIVEC!

Postby Barry » Wed Apr 21, 2004 4:59 pm

Hi All,

Thanks for the positive feedback, I finally got around to looking at the exhaust system it's a "HKS Super Drager" with matching HKS Superflow air filter (green fire alarm shape). They definitely do their job, the roar of the MIVEC at 8,000 RPM is unbelievable!

The FTO is a brilliant buy and definitely worth the extra costs that come with it. Just have to try and avoid the penalty points!

Be careful if you decat as the Super Drager has mild steel internals so you'll likely blow the baffles and end up with a rattling backbox which will probably need to be changed. AFAIK a lot of UK owners have had problems with this.

Welcome to the fold Barry :)

What colour is your GPX by the way and where did you pick it up? Let us know what roads you frequent so as we can keep an eye out for you.

Hi CJ,

It's a black GPX (2 Mivec stickers near rear wheels), also has a red FTO emblem badge, reflector thing? between rear brake lights.

Bought it privately from a guy in Louth, who needed a quick sale :D

I frequent mostly around the N4, SCR, city, M50, Nass Rd.
