Catalytic Converter - NEW

Postby Sebastian » Mon Sep 27, 2010 11:26 pm

I 'm preparing myself to invest in a brand new CAT for the FTO as I want to have some nice figures on emissions test .
I know some lad here bought some cheap universal cat or something like that and it worked .?!
I'm gonna put up what I found maybe we could find a good value for money converter

Any info is much appreciated

CatsDirect - 149pounds + vat

Onlineautomotive - 113.41 pounds

ebay - 293.31 delivered

camskill - 315 pounds delivered

Why do you need this - are you sure you're going to fail without a new one ?

I wouldn't be investing in this unless I knew I needed to and from what I have seen it's often one of the other items that causes high emissions and not necessarily the Cat.

What he said, don't be a spastic like I was.

Replace the CTS before you go buying any cats. I got mine for 150, can't remember from where but someone here will tell you.

my figures were:

Engine temp 81degrees C

Low idle CO 1.31 ( above 0.5 FAIL )
High Idle CO 2.01 (above 0.3 FAIL )

Lambda : 0.954 ( between 0.97 and 1.03 ) FAIL

so they are WAY high.
Any suggestions?

Yep - if they are way high then it's probably the lambda sensor. Don't even think about getting a new CAT until you have replaced this for 20 eur. This was what cured my way high readings. Next after this is the coolant temp sensor (Camskill) - again, another 30 quid or so.

Yep - eBay one did the trick. Fitment just involved cutting the existing unit and reconnecting the wires. Pretty straightforward.
