HID help!!

Postby finers » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:41 pm

Hey finally, getting around to replace my dodgy HID, unfortunately i can't find one OEM for sale, searched ebay there and to be honest i see different temperatures for bulbs, different lengths etc :(, anyone with a bit of knowledge may be able to point me in the right direction before i shell out 100+, i like the pure white beams, i think 4300? and was looking at this,

http://cgi.ebay.ie/Hid-Xenon-Kit-HB3-90 ... 2518wt_941

Any help would be much appreciated!

I was delighted with my HIDs.
There's before & after pics on this thread and a link to where I got them.

ya i was happy enough with mine till lee got other ones for the evo and the difference is unreal! his are savage!!

I still find that driving on dark rds i still need to use my fogs to get good peripheral lighting.... and ive had my lights focused and everything..... i think it might be down to the design of the lens used in the FTO if im honest.... those globes that contain the dims filter too much i think!

yours seem very good Bernard.... dont think mine are as good as that!! Must get a pic similar to that of mine and see how they compare!!!

mine are kingwood.... what brand are yours??? Lee said he was reading up on them before gettin evo ones and the kingwoods got a horrible review! Virtual Daylight ones got the best review by far.... ill get him to post the link here!

In a word, yes. 9006 is the size you want.
Colour choice is down to yourself, google HID colour chart and you'll get a good idea.

Some of the charts can look a little different but I found 6000K the best, anything above that is too blue.
Also the higher the number the less light output you get.

I'd be inclined not to go any higher than 6k, I'm a 4.3k man meself (less white / more stock looking). Note that the the higher you go in temperature, the lower the light output.

Would the ballast be the same whatever type bulb you used..?
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Yup thanks Bernard, emailed a guy about the virtual daylight ones, but yours are proven to be good by the look of the photos, the link you posted on the HID set, there is a specific one for the FTO? did you not purchase that one?

http://www.convert2xenon.co.uk/mitsubis ... n-kit.html

the above one also comes with a slim ballast, did you go for this option am wondering will it fit under the head unit.

Also i totaly agree 6000k is the best lighting imo., great comparisons on youtube.

I can't remember picking an FTO specific one TBH.
I just fancied trying a 50W kit so I went by bulb type, I'm sure that's all the 'specific kits' are anyway.

I'm not sure if the ballasts are the same size or not, mine were fairly thick.
I'd say getting them under the light would be a pig of a job, I'll take some pics later of where I put mine if it would help?

Finers, I wouldn't go burying the ballast under the headlight for 2 reasons.

Firstly you want the ballast to stay cold, secondly if a loose connection develops on one of the plugs (which is quite common) you don't want to be taking your bumper off.

I know the FTO has them underneath the headlight.

Thanks Colm, thinking about it more your right that was the problem in the first place, water going down the sides of the lights and under to the ballast rotted the ballast surround and eventually started to fry internals, goina find a nice dry spot for them and heat shrink everything.

Good stuff, I've had no bother with them anyway.
This is where I stuck mine, the drivers side one in particular is a lovely fit, like it was made for it.
You might find a better a better place though, there's plenty of cable.

Hey Bernard yup sorry been so bust lately put them in a few weeks ago! love them! got the same ones as yourself and
am very pleased with the result, also put LED's in.

Took a bit of time putting them in but i soldered and heat shrunk all the connections so they should last for the
rest of her life time:D.
