Coolant Smell

Theres a fishy coolant smell in my car at the moment it doesnt seem to be coming out of the airvents so im thinking that the heater might be leaking but theres no steam in the car and the carpet is completely dry.

Before I stick in some rad weld and wait in hope has anyone any ideas?

Try pulling the carpet back in the passanger footwell and habve a good feel (!) up towards the bulkhead. If theres no dampness and theres no sign of a coolant leak in the engine bay (keep a close eye on levels) then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get yourself a nice air freshener, I can recommend the Autoglym spray bottle

After sticking my hand in and having a good grope i found coolant

So now i have to get it taken out and a new one made up, Im in the process of looking for a piece pipe to take the heater out of the system.

I dont have a lot of time so im not sure whether to try and take it out myself or pay a garage, Has anyone ever had a heater changed or done it them selves??

Yeah same thing unfortunately, Ive disconnected the heater and used a straight piece of pipe so I have a driveable car with no heater, Which is a start!

Im considering doing it myself through the glove box unless I can find a garage that are willing to do it (or have done one before)

After phone calls and reseaching ive found that one of my customers in Dublin has done a few EVO's and they seem to be very similar so hes going to do it for me,

But what I'd like to get someone to measure a heater matrix for me so I can get rough sizes to make something up in advance and only have to be without the car for one day, Anyone got a heater out of the car (old or new) who'd like to help?

To update this thread I got the heater matrix supplied and fitted by auto rads in Dublin <PH:01 869 0723 and ask for Declan> He had the whole thing done in a day so I was very pleased,

Maybe Cj wants to put that number on the contacts page

Out of curiousity, was it an expensive job?

I was able to supply most of the bits myself through work so it wasnt too bad, Think its normally bout €400 all in.

Dont worry I used some fexible hose piping and an piece of central heating copper piping in the bodge job but no wavin im afraid!
