Digital cameras

Postby kevinod » Tue Aug 26, 2008 9:54 am

Hi all,

my bro is looking at getting a digital camera, nothing heavyweight, something like a Samsung or Nikon Finepix, Canon digital Ixus, that kinda thing. Spending about €200 on it.

Looking for viewfinder, reasonable zoom and quick picture taking, i.e. press the button and it takes the picture, not 2/3 seconds later, but beyond that not too fussy, once it does the job he'd be happy enough.

What's the story with the face detection feature I see mentioned, does it work? does it actually produce a better picture or just a gimmick?

Same for anti-shake (can't think of the proper term), does it work?

Any models that stand out?

Kev.

Face recognition is a gimmick.

I have a Nikon Coolpix S5. It's the shiznit, and sports mode is brill for instant, clear pics of moving objects.

Thanks guys... :)

Does that Nikon have a viewfinder? Looks good besides though.

That Canon seems needlessly 'bulky' if that's the right term, although I'm leaning towards a Canon Digitial IXUS 80 at the moment. Have a 3.3MP Digital ELPH myself at the mo, good camera but the screen eats the battery, part of my reason for going for a viewfinder. Presumably the new ones are better for battery life.

Was wondering about the face detection thing, nice idea but whether it works in practice is another story.
