Importing from the UK

Well definately duty 'cos its inside the EU, whatever about VAT.

Duty is applied to non-EU origin cars so that does not apply.
VAT is not payable in Eire once VAT has previously been paid in the UK. So if it's a used UK reg second hand car then you do not have to pay VAT in Eire.
The only tax payable would be VRT.

Trying not to get off topic, but there was an Antigua registered Kia Santa Fe parked in the car park next door!

I was looking at this for a TT or S3 - all you have to pay is VRT.
