Importing from the UK

Postby CJ » Thu May 04, 2006 12:57 pm

Am I right in saying that cars imported from the UK are exempt from duty and VAT?

You'll still be left with a horrible VRT bill,
So much for free trade...

You don't see many re-registered polish cars on the roads... :smt017

Duty is applied to non-EU origin cars so that does not apply.
VAT is not payable in Eire once VAT has previously been paid in the UK. So if it's a used UK reg second hand car then you do not have to pay VAT in Eire.
The only tax payable would be VRT.

Trying not to get off topic, but there was an Antigua registered Kia Santa Fe parked in the car park next door!

I'm toying with the idea of going down the rotary route with regard to a weekend car, it might never happen so I'm not saying too much at the minute!

I was looking at this for a TT or S3 - all you have to pay is VRT.
