Car was hit on way to work this morning

Postby soc » Fri Sep 23, 2005 12:58 pm

Was coming into work this morning - turning right to go from coast road (sandymount) towards east link bridge (down past clanna gael GAA and direction of sewage works & recycling centre). There's 2 lanes on this right turn but not enough room for a truck + car. I was in outside lane and as I went around the bend a concrete truck tried to come up my inside - no room and he hit the rear drivers wheel arch + door and pushed car sideways. The guy didn't even notice and I had to drive after him and flag him down and even then he was completely unaware - had to show him the damage and the blue paint on his bumper. Turns out he was a non-national, no english and had to get someone to translate for him. Luckily I flagged down a passing garda car and they took all details - guy pretty much admitted liability so I've passed it off to my insurance company who were very helpful..... although it should be and open-shut case fingers crossed there's no funny business from the concrete companies insurers or the company themselves!

Pain in the a$$ shane, hope the damage isn't too severe. Don't get me started on truck drivers!

Hard to believe you can do that kinda damage and move car sideways and not notice you've hit someone - you should push this point a lot stronger with your insurance company should there be any issues brought up from his side.

Bet if you'd been driving an FTO he would have seen you

You and me both. At first glance it looks all superficial but you know how expensive body work can be - might get some other scratches fixed up while I'm at it (and maybe the front and rear valences color coded).

Don't get me started on truck drivers!

They seem to live in their own little world, especially down at east point! I just hope these guys play ball and don't act the bo***x

That's what I thought, but I think he genuinely didn't notice - but what's worse (IMO) is that he didn't see me in the first place!!

Quote to fix the (cosmetic) damage is 750 euro. Now just need to find out if there is any mechanical damage (although car felt ok on the motorway).

OMG that sucks! Truck drivers & lorrydriver seem to be completely oblivious to the size of their vehicles. Sometime I wonder if they're all Learners. I meet loads of them on my way to work - every morning - I try to steer well clear of them - but sometimes it's unavoidable.

Thank god you weren't injured - have seen plenty car vs. truck accidents - and they're not pretty.

Yea, I suppose it could have been a lot worse so I'm thankful it was a low speed impact and looks like only cosmetic damage too.....

Cheers kev, think I'll probably get a few of the more obvious scratchs sprayed up while I'm having the panel damage fixed too... even thinking of putting on an R32 bodykit but I'm not sure if that would be a bit too chav or not.....

Not a chance, its the 3rd or 4th time I've been hit in a carpark with no comeback, my advice is to stay away from the Blanch Centre!

Jaysus, that's sick - have you tried complaining to the car park operators. Sounds like they should have cc tv there...
