No idea, I can't see why they wouldn't be..The film allows plenty of light through.

Had a look at the HID box which I kept and had the old bulb in it and they were HB4, so I presume the same.
Hope that helps.

Car has been off the road a few weeks now (driving an Alfa 147 as my daily now), and havent done a whole lot to it as Im moving house, but tackled the HID a few weeks back.

With Gfalls help, we did the whole lot, raising car, bumper off, lights out etc. What a horrible job! Replaced both ballasts eventually (yep ballast was the problem), and then discovered the new bulbs were wrong! Decided to just stick it all back together and will just buy two new bulbs, seeing as how the wiring is all tidied up.

Front bumper and lights are all a bit misaligned so will want to get that sorted at a bodyshop eventually!

Would this not be an NCT fail? The link above leads to info saying "FlyEyesKit is UK MOT compliant and safe to use on rear reflectors" but does not say this about the headlights. I know it is illegal in the states to alter the manufacturers standard in any way, but what about here? I am assuming this would fail an NCT.

The trouble with aftermarket HID kits is people fit them to standard headlights and the light goes everywhere.
The FTO has projector style lights that focus the beam better because they were designed to take them (HIDs were an option on the FTO).
As long as you fit the kit correctly you'll have no problems come NCT time, I didn't.

Hi Bernard. Sorry I wasn't very clear in my post. I was referring to the tinted film, not the HID kits. I think this could cause an NCT fail, as it would reduce the brightness of the headlights and would be a direct interference with the manufacturers specs. The same rules are not so stringently applied to tail lights, as there are minimum visible light distances and light colours are far as i know to be followed, but no mention of manufacturer specs being an issue.

Because the film is full of holes (it's exactly the same as the eye of a fly, hence the name), it allows the light to pass through...I've yet to put it through the NCT with the film, so will let ye know how it gets on when its done!

Its not the rear lights I am a little worried about. My 318iSE had blacked out lenses and led bulbs and passed the NCT like that. The front lights will raise eyebrows I reckon. Does the film go scruffy looking over time, or does it keep a shine?

Its not really a film, more a mesh, full of little holes, like a fly's eyes.. I think that's why it lets through more light.

I'd have to do a LOT of modification, the bulb doesnt even go in, and if it did, all the parts that align up are all in the wrong place. For the sake of a few euro, I'd rather just make sure I buy the right ones!

From what I can remember you need to nick off a notch from the bulb holder to get it to fit.

Most of the issues are now sorted out. Have to sort out a passenger side arch liner still, but thats about it.

Drove it properly yesterday for the first time in ages, I'd forgotten how much I love it (and how quick they are!)
