not really no, I didn't want to go down the jeep route... well not yet anyways. I'd prefer something "sporty" with 4 seats, and I've pretty much decided 25K or under as I want to change herself's car as well and 10K should cover that...

Is the year of the car important to you? would you go back in years?

Perhaps one of the Hot Hatch brigade - GTA 147 /Focus RS or ST / Clio 197 or Megane 225 Cup / New shape Civic Type R or DC5 Teg / Astra OPC

May seem a little left field but I really enjoyed my Racing Puma for the couple of years I had it - loved the Sparco Milano seats, 4 pot Alcon calipers, wider aluminium arches, the Janspeed exhaust that used to pop and bang on the overrun, upgraded suspension etc - Ford sold these at 23K GBP and lost money on every one.
http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cf ... rID=811818 - its an incredible handling car that sounds unbelievable straight out of the box - good room in the back - you'd have to drive it to see what I mean - no hot hatch would come close around a tight track purely on handling and braking.

Otherwise its the usual suspects - RX7 / RX8 / Supra TT / Evo / STI

Have you considered something like a 530D? you'd probably get a last of the old (nicer) shape with good kit for €25k

Re: the Puma, I had one for a weekend and the rear seat room was tiny.

Ok I have to do it!

Get one of these!!

Just stick the kid in the girlfriend's car. ;)

Although I'd suggest you find a 1997 VR-4 model. Very fast. Imagine all the modding you could do with the extra cash.

I had a Racing Puma for 2 years and theres better rear room and access than in the FTO IMO.

But the FTO is tiny in the back too! I'd class the Puma's rear as on a par with the Ka but with less headroom. The Puma's rear seats are a pain to fit child seats to too (1.4 model anyway)

Puma is nice!!! I dunno if I would drive it as my own, but I may be able to swing it for the girlfriend, insurance depending!!
As for a change for me!! i really don't know... I don't think I could go for a hot hatch...

Do it man...Do it!

And chuck a few bob into modding her! You'll have a great driver's car

I always preferred the older evos (4/5/6) but as time goes on the style of the 7/8/9 really grows on me...

Its very nice - but its Evo 8 money.

'04 FQ340 Evo 8 would be a better bet and better value - http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cf ... rID=797194

Probably the best EVO model ever produced - its unlikely that the Mitsi will produce a faster variant Evo X.

Still talking about v high running costs though. Thats why I suggested the Racing Puma - costs little to run and tax/insure and would keep you entertained untill you hand it over to the GF and pick up something that a fussy bugger like you will be happy with driving.

What about a DC5 Integra?

But if I were you a STi Impreza or a EVO8... go on stretch it out a bit!

just been looking at the dc5's there!! they're beginning to come down to reasonable money, but i think i'm leaning for an evo, there's very few scoobies that do it for me, has to black and there's so few out there!

I'm thinking of changing & depending on the changes to the car tax in the budget a 350z may be in the mix. Rus has promised me a spin in his sometime over the coming week so I can see if there's a higher level of comfort than the TT ;)

Gwyn wrote:Only concern should be safety I think. FTO is likely to disintegrate in a decent collision. If memory serves, one of the reasons the car was discontinued was that it failed to meet new safety laws, and Mitsi were not keen on throwing cash at it, as sales were falling anyway.

Okaaaaay... I could have survived in this world without knowing that...

@Dave:

New Clio Sport 197, bf is big on getting one, in racing blue. 4* NCAP rating... and silly fast and sexy for a hothatch... test drove one in Galway, plenty of room in the back and you can get these special baby seats that click into the back seat of the Clio (yes, he was thinking ahead), and those seats in themselves are very safe...
