240 Bhp

Postby zacob » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:41 pm

Lads seen this add for a 240bhp FTO and e-mailed about details knowing that it sounded doddgy. Just wondering would the modifications stated increase the bhp to 240.

"the car has a forced air induction kit, has a cat bypass pipe, racing plugs and it has been computer tuned, this is a rough guess as the car was doing 208bhp before any work was done. It will be going onto the rolling road during the week to get a precise reading (roughly 240bhp). Hope this answers your guestion. If you want to know anything else please do not hesitate to contact me"

Its extemely unlikely that the V6 will output anything near 240bhp with stage one mods, 'the car has a forced air induction kit' sounds to me like it has a cold air feed channeled to the induction kit, hardly forced induction. I'll reserve further judgement until I see a copy of the dyno report.

ask for a copy of the dyno report - it's well known that's it very hard to get gains from the FTO's V6 - an induction kit and cat bypass ain't gonna give you that even if the car is re-mapped (re-mapping a N/A car also gives negligible gains)

Well - I have an ITG filter, Denso Iridium plugs and a de-cat performance exhaust and I think 240BHP would certainly be well overstating the power this guy can expect fromm his 2.0V6 Mivec - That is I presume he is talking about a Mivec Manual - if he is talking about a GPX Tip, GR Man or Tip then he is deluding himself.

BTW - I am going back to the rolling road as soon as I get my tappets done - I noticed my max power came in at exactly 121MPH before suddenly being cut-off - It had obviously hit the Speed limiter in 4th gear - so my at the wheels power of 161.1 (192.5BHP at flywheel) would be underestimated. My max torque figure of 145.2Ib ft at 4904RPM would be accurate as it tailed off before rising again to an almost identical figure at 6500RPM - so revs or speed did not become an issue.
