Just had aircon regassed

Postby CJ » Tue Jan 10, 2006 2:50 pm

After a failed attempt at DIY regassing (read about it here), I decided to have the system checked by someone that knew what they were at. A guy out in Tallaght called John Kenealy was recommended by a mate so I gave him a shout and he came out to my workplace this morning. He undertook a UV dye leak test, cleaned out the system and refilled, thankfully there was no leaks. He said that there was very little gas in the system which would explain why the compressor was making a hissing noise - it had nothing to compress! The a/c has never blown so cold when set at max cool, get this - when on full at 17 deg for 5mins, condensation started to appear on the OUTSIDE of the windows, now thats cold! In terms of price, he only charged me €80 (he initially quoted me €90 - €100). I would definately recommend him if your aircon needs refilling, details on the Services page.

NEAT!

So the self regassing thing is definately a dudd?? - or was the ""issue"" related to your particular FTO?

I reckon it was car specific, I undertook the DIY process in the same way on ammates car and its been working fine for him since. Considering the cost of the can (~€60), it makes sense to have the job done properly.

I think I might have to try that on the golf cause it wasn't blowing very cold during the summer months....
