Stolen

Postby Wildhound » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:59 am

Less than a week after I fixed it and only two days before I move to an apartment with secure underground parking, my FTO has been stolen from outside the house. It happened about twenty minutes ago, gone without a trace.

There's no words for my rage right now...

Yeah tell me about it. It will be extremely difficult to replace if I need to...

Update: Gardai arrived around 430 and said they had 'found' the car in Tallaght, but had not yet recovered it. They said it was still on the move and the general impression I got was that there was a prusuit going on, possibly involving a helicopter (heard them discussing weather conditions on the walkie and could hear the chopper in the area every few minutes). They said they expect to recover it ok, but there are no guarantees.

There was only a drop of pettrol in it, I'm surprised they managed to get very far.

Just taking deep breaths at the moment and counting to 1 million. Have to work!

Sh1te - did they break in and steal the key or hot wire?
Whats the story re any damage done by joyriders? Will you be able to claim through insurance for repairs?

Only one key and it was on my bedside locker (learned that lesson a long time ago) so they hotwired it. They managed to get into it without breaking any glass though.

I'd assume I can claim for it but will lose my no claims so there's not much point, even if God forbid it ends up a write-off. Will have to just bite the bullet and foot the bill myself.

UPDATE: Very bad news. I was talking to the Gardai there. The car was involved in a chase at 4:20 this morning in the Tallaght area. Eventually they rammed a patrol car and escaped. The car was still driving, though there was definitely damage to the front end, he couldn't say how much.

He said that most likely it will now be abandoned because if it was to be used in a crime it will now stand out too much, but that it could take some time to find.

Doesn't sound good at all, I reckon if I do get i back it will only be good for parts. Absolutely gutted since it's pretty much irreplacable. Any other examples as nice are owned by you guys and not for sale!

In the mean time if all you lads in the Dublin area could keep an eye out I'd be very grateful. Silver FTO, 95D53375, quad exhaust, fto-ireland stickers on the side windows. Many of you know the car and have seen it in the flesh (used to be Colm's).

Cheers.

If these guys are anything like the scumbags I think they are then they will burn out your FTO. Most scumbags know enough these days not to simply abandon a car leaving evidence/fingerprints behind.

Theres no way IMO this FTO is still in one piece.

If that's the case then lets hope there's at least some parts that can be salvaged. If I knew who they were...God help them.

I hate to see threads like this on the forum, fingers crossed that the damage isn't too bad.

Hopefully the scum involved are caught, and given that they rammed the garda car their punishment might be a little more severe.

Really sorry to hear this. I had a similar thing happen to a car of mine, though not nearly as nice as your FTO, so I can only imagine how you feel.
Fingers crossed some good comes out of it.

Oh god wildhound... so sorry...

Maybe its best if you don't get it back, the engine could be wrecked and the insurance company may deem it fine. Claim off your insurance, that's what its for.

nah i don't think they'll risk to strip that car specially after ramming a police cruiser . from what I've seen so far i reckon they'll abandon it or worst case scenario burn it .
I just hope you 'll get it sorted by the insurance and the scum gets caught .

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Just got an update from the insurance assessor. Apparently the car WAS recovered and the Gardai were somehow misinformed. The pciture I'm getting is that they fled on foot after they rammed the Garda car (or indeed, it rammed them) and the car was recovered then.

No idea what kind of damage has been done yet as he can't go out and look at the car until the Gardai are finished with it. Apparently when it's involved in an impact with the Gardai it becomes a more serious offence than theft and they have to check it more thoroughly. He's expecting to be able to inspect it tomorrow.

So I don't know what to expect really.

Look on the bright side, the car is still alive, (if the worst comes to the worst I think you can buy it back off the insurance and fix it up if its not bad). As its a '95 theres a high probability that they'll say its a write-off as the value of the repair will be more than the value of the car. But bear in mind that the current value is very little, and if the damage isn't that bad, (relatively speaking), then theres plenty of lads selling parts on the forum and I'm sure you'd get a few bits in no time. All is not lost quite yet.
