Saturday morning about 11.50, exchanged flashes with another steel silver FTO which I met on the road. 95 MN...I think, with black front no. plate....surely someone on the forum?

No. I only went as far as Charlestown and turned off down the N5 towards Roscommon. Whoever was driving flashed at me first so I thought it would be someone on the forum. I was going to look at a potential replacement for the FTO.....what a complete waste of time :x

Well you know how I feel - its a waste of time looking for any car to replace an FTO.

What were you thinking of getting?

OK fair point! Time to go off topic..... Well suffice it to say I'm trading down :( And looking for something cheap and cheerful (as opposed to cheap and nasty  )
I've been considering all sorts, but have only just started actually looking. will most likely get a rep mobile type motor.
On this occasion the car in question................dare I say it!
Was a rover 600. I justify this on a number of levels..
1.Cheap as chips
2.High spec
3.Realiable honda engine
4.I learned to drive in one!
However this particular car was in fact a shed on wheels, and I'm not sure that I would have even taken it as a present...as it appeared to be a bottomless pit just ready to consume large amounts of my hard earned!
Ideally I'd prefer a 2L galant.................watch this space!
(sratch that..ideally I'd prefer to keep the FTO)

Well it would have to be one or the other wouldn't it? It's not like I'd choose to replace the FTO with some mainstream motor. In this case a house..some time in the distant future...

You can now pick up an Alfa 156 for between 4-5 K.
I have seen a couple of 98/99 2.0 TwinSpark sportivos with leather and 17's for this money.

Thats a big drop from a new price of 35K at the moment - good handling/spec and a nice looking car.

Better bet than a Rover 600 IMO - they're a little old hat.

Perhaps I should start a thread on the Other cars forum. My folks had a rover 600 and replaced it with a 156 (which is the current ride, until they release the 159!)...Yea I'd like a 156 but having 1st hand experience of one over the last 5 years, I'd be wary of buying one + theres a lot of rubbish out there (although you could say that about most cars). Yes the 600 is getting old!
