Spotted 97 prefacelift FTO on way into Limerick heading towards New Bridge at 0840 this morning.

How are you getting on with the car Dean?
Much different from the GS?

Is that a regular route?
If so keep an eye out for my Steel Silver GPX - it'll be the one flashing at you

Were you on the dublin road towards anacotty the other day. Dressed in a suit? Someone drove past me in a silver FTO. Saw me too.

No, not regular. I drive the Dublin dual carriageway towards Roxboro every morning though.

O/T here but moving from a tip GS to a manual GR is a big, big step :P Like chalk and cheese.... a very sweet move and one I regret never making - I wish I had owned/driven a manual for a while.

Apart from the tappets..which are annoying me, this one is quieter than the GS, exhaust wise. Dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I sort of miss those dual exhausts.

Maybe a trip to the Powerflow outlet in Dublin is required ;) Or maybe get a mongoose - I can vouch (having recently driven behind a GR with mongoose and decat) that they sound absolutely amazing... quite raspy and metallic, almost similar (in a low key way) to a Ferrari F355  I really love that sound!

A little strange alright. The car had nearly passed me by the time I saw it.
Thought to myself don't see too many '97's around :!: Then I realised it was my (ex) car  :) :(
A little bit off your daily commute Dean?

I am still unsure. This one has a quiet purr about it. Which I quite like, but cant decide if the loud raspy hum from the old gs was preferable.

Oh, and the tappets only last for about 30 seconds on a cold morning.
Or if you give the engine a fast rev it disappears too. Unfortunately that would wake up the neighbours :D

Quite probably - did the FTO have white wheels?
You'll definetly see me coming from here on in - Cars in the bodyshop at the moment - I will have DC side Skirts and Hiro Wing to add to my existing Top Mix front and probably black rather than white 17" wheels.

BTW - If you want increased sound then you'll need an induction and exhaust (preferably decat) - I will be bringing a spare ITG to the Kerry meet if anyone has any interest in it.
If you go to the meet you will also hear the difference an induction and exhaust can make to a GR or GPX.

I'd say Nigel might take that off your hands if there are no other takers, he was inquiring about it a while back.

No prob - I bought a HKS and swopped onto the FTO - but to be honest theres no noticeable difference between the two and without a rolling road its difficult to tell if theres any performance increase. Both sound way better than standard filter though.

You are too familiar with the car, that's your problem. I'd be happy to take the car for a few 'test runs' with the different filters, in order to offer an objective opinion  :D

They are all mates really - I'd need to talk to you about them to be honest rather than give you names and addresses. Come to the meet and I'll fill you in.

Yes, you should definitely get an induction kit - best sound in the world when you hit 4500+ rpms

Induction kit will probably be the first job when mine arrives in. Where's the best place to get one over here and how much am I looking at :?: Are they easy enough to fit :?:

Best bet is to get to know Mike in Camskill - www.camskill.co.uk - they have ITG and HKS induction kits for sale. ITG is the best value option - HKS sounds a little better but theres very little in it.

Don't buy a universal kit from a local motor store - better to buy FTO specific performance parts.
