fuel gauge

Postby msmorrissey » Fri Mar 05, 2004 10:07 am

Hi all, wondering if anyone has an idea and or a quick fix for a fuel gauge thats stuck on 1/4 full. It'll show higher capacity but the needle will not go below the 1/4 point.

First things first, take out the instrument console and check that theres nothing causing the needle to stick . Have you changed the dials recently? Was the problem always apparent or did it just develop?

at a guess I'd say this could be the problem - I recently changed to some white dials and my temp gauge wouldn't go above 1/4 way and my fuel gauge wouldn't go below 3/4 full. The needles were getting stuck so I took out the console and freed them up - the fuel gauge is fine now but the temp gauge is still stuck.... must have another go at freeing it up :)

Don't fill up for awhile keep driving the the orange light come on constantly (usually after about 6 times of comming on the going off) then remove dash, remove needle. replace dasy with out the plastic front shield put ignision to on then replace the needle so that it it pointing at E
remove dash make sure needle is fitted correctly and reassemble and refit.
fill up till about 3/4 or more then let it empty out again, and if it doesn't work after this i'm guessing its the float mechinism in the tank that is the problem.
