any particular brand of octane booster?

What oil grade and quantity are you talking about Dave?

I have been using Silkolene Pro Boost as an Octane booster - by far the best of the Octane boosters I have used - and the only brand that I am convinced of that actually raises the Octane by 3% so that a 98 fuel can be raised to over 100Octane.

When I was in Japan last year I noticed many forecourts with 102Octane - now I'm pretty sure that would get the GPX up to 200BHP.

Seems to be a lot of choice so!
Does anyone have good experience of an oil that really reduces tappet problems? If so what brand ?
My tappets are taking 5 minutes now in the monrings to quieten, think the last oil change was six months ago......It's A GR so adjusting would be possible if not tricky, want to give the oil change a go first though.

I thought you could only adjust the tappets on a GPX, not a GR?

5 mins seems a fair bit, mine is at most for 10 -20 seconds, although this morning it was more like 2-3 seconds. I take it your oil isn't low?

Mine seems only to do it in colder weather, no tappet issues after the sun comes out.

A quick rev sometimes does the trick too.

Interesting, now that you mention it, the sun was out this morning when I left home, and the tappet noise lasted for a particularly short time. hmmmm.... :?

Mivec engine tappets can be adjusted - the only option on a GR is to replace - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p2474

Regular oil changes (of appropriate grade) will reduce the noise - but you are still only really masking the issue not dealing with it.

Found the web site of the UK dealership:

http://www.redlineoil.co.uk/

We get a 10% (I think it's 10% anyway) discount for being in the S2000 owners club.... so mail and ask him about the FTO club. It's good gear.

O/T - I had noise tappets on my GR for the 1st minutes most mornings - before I sold I used Forte top end treatment on my GR and it did a great job - tappets were quiet unless it was really cold or the car had not been run for a couple of days. Worth the money if you ask me...
