Immobiliser recommendations?

Postby kevinod » Thu Oct 18, 2007 4:32 pm

Question...

I have an alarm & separate immobiliser on my car at the moment. The immobiliser is great 'cos even if you have my keys you probably won't be able to start the car, cos you need to know how to turn it off.

I've ran into a problem though, my spare immobiliser fob stopped working, and the alarm guys I got it installed through haven't been able to program a new one (tried several times, using 2 different master keys), so I'm left with the one. If this breaks I'm screwed.

The alarm guys are talking about replacing it with an immobiliser, and from his description, you'll more than likely be able to suss out easy enough if you have my keys.

I really like the way people can't start my car even with the keys at the moment, so want to replace the immobiliser with another that'll have that kinda feature, whether its a keypad with a code or something non-obvious you have to do or whatever.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Clifford do a system called black jax. I think it's a standalone system seperate from the alarm.

Here's the blurb: I think this is the system I have on mine.

Carjacking Response & Vehicle Recovery System
BlackJax is Cliffords unique anti-carjacking response system that puts personal safety first while using innovative advancements to ensure that users can recover the vehicle themselves. If an armed car thief approaches whether at a stoplight or in a parking lot (where most carjackings occur) immediately turn over the keys and remote and let Clifford technology take over.

BlackJax is fully automatic: no buttons or transmitters to push when a gun is involved. Just get away from the vehicle. BlackJax allows the criminal to drive away a safe distance. Then, a few seconds later, BlackJax blares the siren and flashes the lights to alert other drivers and witnesses. It then pulses down the ignition system to safely force the vehicle to slow to a complete stop. Siren blaring and lights flashing, unable to restart the engine, the carjacker has no choice but to abandon the vehicle.

BlackJax offers immediate vehicle self-recovery. With the vehicle immobilized a short distance away, the owner can recover it. No special tracking units, monthly fees or per-use charges. Just follow the sound of the BlackJax siren, then enter the PIN code. Thats it its sabotage-proof. The only way to turn off BlackJax is with a secret user-selectable PIN code. If the carjacker tries guessing codes at random, BlackJax actively ignores his code entries for the next few minutes. Even if he were to find and remove the BlackJax control unit, he would still be unable to restart the engine. Thats Clifford technology you can count on.

Sounds interesting! Mine is Meta... no problems with it at all apart from not being able to program the key.

I had Blackjax on the Rex, it takes a while to get used to but its an excellent option to have and renders the car virtually un-stealable (unless the thief has the code of course ;))

yeah I have Blackjax too. Its great. CJ is right, it takes a few weeks to get used to having to put the code in everytime you start the car, but now its as second nature to me as turning the key and takes about 2 seconds. Plus its reassuring to know if someone every steals your keys or robs the car when its already running, they won't get far.

Sounds like the Saxo I had years ago, had a keypad in front of the gear stick I had to key the number into whenever I wanted to start it, no probs there.

I'll look into that... anyone remember what they paid for it?

the car will start without you having to key in the code, just as soon as you go over a certain speed, it kicks in, so handy if you just want to move the car a small distance.
