engine over revving when changing gear in automatic

When driving our automatic mivec, it over revs when changing gear, there is a pause when it changes then the engine revs and it clunks into gear, its just started happening today, i've read a few answers on forum and going to check gearbox oil level so could you tell me how to check this. Any advice would be appeciated, thank you.
