New FTO minor problems

Postby sinlessgunner » Mon Feb 11, 2008 10:26 pm

Hi

I didn't know what category to put this under because I have a few problems that need fixing. I bought the car knowing that these things were wrong with it but I want to know are there any quick solutions I can try myself before I pay a mechanic.

1. When the engine is cold I have to keep the car revving slightly to stop it cutting out. When the engine is warm the car is fine. What is the cause of this and how can I fix/prevent it?

2. The rubber bushes in the rear suspension are gone (or so I'm told). I feel every bump in the road. I'll prob get a mechanic to do this but could there be something else causing it?

3. There is a squeakin coming from the engine. I think the fan belt just needs a tightening but could this be something else?

All input greatly appreciated!!

1. Stepper motor needs cleaning or replacing - have a search of the forum.

2. Anti roll bar (ARB) bushes and droplinks probably needs to be replaced at a minimum, if you say that you feel every bump on the road, then one or both of the rear shocks may be bottoming out. Solution - replacement.

3. Speaking you say, nest of mice perhaps? ;) Probably just the belts that need tightening.

Check out www.camskill.co.uk for parts info. Depending on your mechanical abilities, you could undertake the arb bushes and droplinks easily. If you're unsure, suggest you speak to a good mechanic.

In the mean time, check out http://www.ftodiy.co.uk/ for mechanical tips.

Thanks mate. And how much do you think I'd be looking at for the repairs of the suspension?

Cost of parts and prolly a minimum of 50e to fit shock/spring per corner..that's what I've paid in the past anyways.. Might as well get the drop links done as well while you're at it. Make sure to have a look at the bushes as well...

belts are a piddle to change - do a search on the site and you'll find loads of info on it..

Yeah I have a GPX so that would be no problem. Still haven't gotten around to cleaning the thing yet though. Every time I go to do it I just end up taking her out for a spin ha!
