Rubber size

Postby DirtyLopez » Thu Sep 06, 2007 9:43 am

Just a kwick question :D
What rubber size would be the best for 17" 7.5J wide alloys?
Thanks

For the FTO I would suggest a 215/45 tyre for comfort or a 215/40 tyre if you are worried about rubbing the front wheels at full lock on a lowered FTO.

I have 225/40 on my 7.5j rims and they rub like -something that rubs alot-.

225 looks the business on the rear tho.. but I wouldn't go wider the 215 on the front..

Yes, but aren`t 215s best for 7J wide alloys? I think 7.5J needs 225 at least. I don`t know...

215 fits on a 7.5j rim there's a teensy weensy bit os a streetch which lower the profile ever so slightly - nothing criminal or dangerous..

if you're near DTAS (Rosemount business park D15) pop in and have a chat with them they'll fill in the blanks..

A 215 tyre will fit perfectly on any rim from 7.0 up to 8.5.
I had a 215 tyre on an 8.5 rim on my FTO without any problem.

A 225 tyre will fit any rim from 7.5 up to 9.0.

I wouldn't mix different tyre sizes on the FTO - a larger tyre size on the back than front of the FTO will only increase understeer.

He has 235/45 tyres on those rims so you'll have to change the tyre to make them fit - you may also need to check the centre bore and offset of those rims as he doesn't mention it.

True that - I'm generally a very calm and sedate driver tho so I don't really notice iiiiiit..

(Sorry my nose was pressing the "i" there.. I need to get hold of pepito again something gone wrong with my nose).

Seriously tho - when I had the 18s on the rear and the 16s on the front I only really noticed the difference when it was really wet out..

wide tires are tricky on the front of the fto as there's not much room to spare width wise under the arches..

Its all about the offset there - you need to marry up the offset with the rim and tyre width you plan on running.

As a loose example - on an FTO - a 225/45 R17 tyre on a 40 offset rim is going to seriously rub - on a 20 offset rim you'd have no problems.

Is that to protect your rim or someone elses? :P

Personally I find that that particular rubber is a little too soft compound - I need a harder wearing compund for longevity!
