Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like an ordinary 6A12 engine to me? Its just missing the engine cover thats all.

Not a 6a12 . Look at the cambelt cover, the V on the top middle is not on the 6A12. I would think it might be a 3.0 out of a galant/sigma

Oh ya never noticed that actually.
I always thought a 3.0L engine would be a lot bigger or something, its very like the 6A12. It looks like a direct transplant so is it without having to modify anything in the bay?

This is getting interesting, another thing id love to know is if it is mivec... a 3.0 v6 mivec would be seriously cool. his 0-60 & 0-100 stats are pretty enormous too..
0-60mph is approx 4.5sec
0-100mph is approx 11sec

HKS Kansai 3.0 Litre FTO

This website is dedicated to the HKS / Kansai built FTO, this car was in development for two years and has many unique features.

As far as we know this is the only FTO which has been converted into a three litre V6 with Mivec, the engine (6G72) was taken from the second generation Mitsubishi Diamante which was introduced in Japan back in 1995 with a reported power figure of 270bhp (actual engine bhp to be verified with rolling road test soon).

The gearbox is still unidentified however we can confirm that its a 5 speed tiptronic automatic.

Information on this vehicle is currently being collated and will be published here as it gets verified, images, videos and technical data will be uploaded here over time.

If you have any data for this vehicle we would love to hear from you.

More info from Wiki on the diamante. strange as it says the range topper was a 3.5 Mivec.. with similar power figures to the 3.0?? FTO...
Torque is huge!

The second iteration of the Diamante was introduced in Japan in January 1995. The car was marginally larger with improved headroom.

Several engines were available. The base engine was a 2.5 L MVV (lean burn) V6, followed by a number of 2.5 and 3.0 liter variants. The new Diamante range topped off with a 3.5 L MIVEC V6 rated at 194 kW (264 PS; 260 hp) at 6000 and 324 N·m (239 ft·lbf) at 4500 rpm.

Isn't the 6G72 from a GTO? I thought these were too big to fit in an FTO?

This FTO has been around the UK quite a while now. TBH if I was doing an engine conversion in an FTO I'd be going for a lighter engine with forced induction - not sure how that FTO would handle with such weight over the front wheels.

Otherwise on the face of it - it looks well put together apart from the fact they've had to increase the height of the bonnet so it'll permanently look like its been in a crash.

6K Sterling does seem a little steep as well - cost circa 9K Euro to get into Ireland - you'd buy a '03 350Z (or similar) here for that money.

Ah, I thought the bonnet was raised for cooling purposes.
So other than lifting the bonnet it will fit then? I think I'd still go the 6A13TT route though, lot more you can do to it to make it more powerful, though you wouldn't want to go past 300bhp I wouldn't imagine with FWD. Then again, if the 6G72 engine is more or less the same size as the 6A12 or 6A13, a turbo set up should fit in there as well yes? Though as far as I know the 6G72TT is 276bhp as standard, which is roughly the same as the 6A13TT, so it doesn't really make much of a difference which one goes in there, except that one will cost you more on petrol as its 500cc more.

ya id say they should both fit.. i would have no problem having a raised bonnet... its a "cool" thing to do since D1 started :P
if they are 270bhp standard on a twin turbo, upping the boost a few psi's and a free flowin exhaust you would have a monster literally fire breathing, grunting Animal haha :D me likes. So Martin, when you doin this swap then?! :nwor

Mitsubishi already thought of this and built the gto!

Then there's the toyota Supra which can be had for peanuts.

I don't know why people can't accept an fto for what it is.

The car is beautiful.. but people get addicted to power, they love the car but want it to go faster.

Im not having a go, but do you have ANY aftermarket parts on your car? if yes, why didnt you accept the car for what it is? you see whether it be power, sound or looks, customizing is what people do, to everything to self- tailor it to there requirements.

Hence, if i could afford it i would do the 3.5 V6 Mivec conversion.
Hence, people fit alloy wheels not standard with the car...
I love the fto, and i have only driven mine once!

My car is completely standard apart from the stereo.
I'm not against modifications, my last fto had quite a few subtle modifications, but none of them changed what the essence of the car is in my eyes:
A small stylish lightweight coupe with tidy handling.

Sometimes less is more. In the same way that a 205 GTi 1.6 is better that the 1.9 version.

The fto can't really handle big power, novelty value within fto circles is the only appeal of a car like this and is thoroughly outclassed by cars like the rx7/supra/m3 which can be bought for a fraction of what this guy is asking.

Understood, but i am in no way interested in buying the car, more interested in the engine.. the novelty value is a huge part of the Fto's appeal, i like to have cars no-one else has or are at least rare enough that you dont see them every week. i owned a mk2 fiesta 1.0 that i loved and adored as it is a classic and a rarity on the irish roads, most are rust buckets or garaged, anyway no arguing. this is about our love for cars, each to there own :D
