Industrial Estates and speed limits

Postby CJ » Wed Jun 16, 2004 8:52 pm

Anyone know the story with regards to the recommended speed limits set in industrial estates\businerss parks from a legal perspective? Are these roads considered private or are you liable to prosecution for speeding, careless driving etc?

I'm just curious, I swear :)

As far as I know there considered a public place so the normal rules of the road apply,

As long as there is other road users around you owe the a duty of care

I couldnt imagine the boyz in blue putting a speed check in one though!!!

I know in Sandyford Ind est. it is a 30Mph Zone all the way around where ever you are. I would think the old build up area rule would kick in to play. One night after work i was coming out of the estate and I was over taken by some bird in a 1.4 jimmy jeep. I was in that lazy curse mode doing like 25- 30 mph and she just blow by me. but low and behold in Sandyford Ind estate. The police where at the top of the road with the speed gun and had pulled her for speed. I remember driving by and she was crying in the car at the policeman. And to make this worse the point system was just in place a week before.

The speed bumps, or at least some of the ones in Shannon Ind Est have been removed for the Bush visit, to help with a speedy emergency get away I guess. They have been replaced with nice new flat smooth tarmac :) I'm sure they'll replace them eventually though :(

Mustang,

Hope they removed those dreadful steel speedbumps they have all over that estate - they are far worse than the larger concrete ones. No matter how slow you drive over the steel ones you are still in danger of chipping your teeth !

BTW - Did you get the FTO yet? - Haven't seen many around Shannon.

Not sure about those nasty steel ones......very severe, but they,ve taken up the concrete ones. Won't have the car on the road for another two weeks. Saw another steel silver FTO in Shannon this morning though
