Looking for Long Dogbone for GPX '97 facelift

Postby Bartpabicz » Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:08 pm

Hi everyone,

I just came back from the mechanic who took a look at my newest car. Enough to say that this visit took all my cheer away as I'm looking at 400 euro bill at the very start of my adventure with it. I looked up the car parts prices on Camskill and am reluctant to get everything from them as my budget is already strained. So, if anyone has any of these parts for sale, I would be happy to take them off your hands for a reasonable price:

LIST UPDATED

1x upper lateral link from the rear suspension (aka Rear Upper Arm aka Long Dogbone) Left side.

I am based in Cork. I would appreciate any information/offers on those parts. Thanks a lot!

Bart , I think one thread it's enough for your parts , you look like a SPAM on the sale subforum now. . .

and btw it's either facelift or prefacelift not post-lift :)

good luck in finding them parts but I would suggest to buy 90% of the parts requested NEW , as it's false economy to put second hand bushes ,gaskets, gaiters . . .

apologies, did not mean to spam - I simply thought that some users post their sale thread and wait for replies rather than hunting for "parts wanted" threads that might come up. I will remove my posts from other threads and PM them to authors.

As for your other suggestion - I did not presume all of the parts I need could be bought used. I know people are sometimes stuck with new parts they got for the car they sold in the meantime, or perhaps just have access to them by other means. I might sound cheap, but I decided to pay decent money for the car that was supposed to be in pristine condition and now I'm stuck with substantial repairs at hand. But enough negativity, you're right. Cutting corners on "consumables" is not the best idea. Still, if anyone would have anything from my list, let me know. Otherwise I'll start ordering stuff from Camskill.

as for this "post-lift" part, I stand corrected.

Thanks a lot for your post mate.

Just to clarify something here, I don't know any 14yr old car that is pristine condition, I openly told you of what I knew to be wrong with the car, I was unaware there were other issues with the car. I had told you i had not driven the car myself in some months as i couldn't use my 3rd party extension.
And for the record I made a huge move on the price for you, you got the car cheap I even gave you and extra €250 off the car the day you came to look at it because you were so interested in it and I said I'd make a good deal for you. I appreciate there are some issues with the car now but that's through no fault of mine.

@miss-enzo

Well, pristine for an 14-year-old car, of course. Meaning, in my book, that no immediate work needs to be done.

I have expressed that I do not feel that I have been lied to or cheated intentionally. It simply turned out that taking somebody's word, even honest one, instead of checking the car thoroughly with unrelated mechanic, is not the best of ideas - instead of getting what I believed I was getting, I got something else. Lesson learned - for bot of us I suppose.

Now, is it me or this thread is getting a bit too personal for a "parts wanted" topic?

I am still stuck for these parts, so anyone who'd have them, please either post here or PM me. Cheers!

I get the impression that you would be expecting the second hand parts your after to come in a mitsibushi box all wrapped up,
unused and with a 14 year guarantee.
Mate its a 14 year old car with good nct on it and you got it for a good price.
How was miss enzo supposed to know that the gaitors were gone on the rack.
If you dont konw much about cars and you obviously dont as your asking in a different thread how to remove a gear knob, then you bring somebody with ya that does when looking at car.

that is exactly the conclusion I have drawn from this transaction. I do not really understand such hostility - did I step onto somebody's toe or something? Do you, Gerry, have the impression that I hold Miss Enzo responsible for such state of affairs? If so, please read all the posts again. At the time of purchase it was unfortunate decision on my part that I did not have the car checked, as for anything else I have already expressed my view and stick firmly to it, especially since they are not meant to be offensive in any way. At no point did I accuse anybody of intentional harm or dishonesty, why do I get such defensive replies then?

Please, let's stick to the topic as I did not mean to start a forum-wide discussion on my level of technical knowledge (which is nil, clearly, as so eagerly pointed out by Gerry (this is actually a joke. It is. It really is! :D ) ) or if I feel cheated by another forum member, while it is exactly the opposite. And if anyone else would feel the urge to state the obvious, then please, guys...

Just thinking, perhaps it's the way eastern-europeans, like myself, think and act, that Irish people find offensive (we tend to be more direct, to the point of being perceived as offensive due to level of subtlety the Irish community may be accustomed to) - but this is just my personal opinion, and by all means I may be wrong. Dang, I just hope this last sentence won't start a storm here  To anyone reading this - please, please, please - do know that I did not want, in any way, to sound offensive, to anybody or anything, on the entire planet. Relax and take whatever I post here with a pinch of salt  (and yes, this entire sentence is meant to be humorous).

Ok, so now, can we please go back to the "parts wanted" part of discussion?

As per Sebastian's advice (thanks!), I'm getting all bushes, gaskets and gaiters from Camskill if nobody have any spares. I still am looking for steering rack, aluminium power steering pipe fragment and rear left top shock mounting in Cork vincinity, so if anyone's close nearby with some spares laying around, let me know. Thanks!

Try sending Steelroe a PM, he usually had spares and isn't too far away from you.
You might also want to update your profile to include your location as it makes it easier for people to give you advice based on where you are.

Talk to Camskill. Negotiate a lower shipping cost over the phone by using post rather than courier.

thanks for the tip CJ, I will do so the next time I'm ordering from them. As for the parts, they're already ordered from SPMotor (used dogbones and new pulley) so thanks everyone who offered their help.

And a small off-topic thought - always look for non-OE counterparts on Camskill website. It might bite a good chunk off the total price. Learned the hard way.

What sort of shipping costs did you have to pay to these guys - was it a lot more reasonable than Camskill ?

reasonable cost.... hm. It's a two-sided coin when it comes to these guys. Shipping is dear - it cost me 32 pounds to ship 2x long dogbone, 2x short dogbone and a tensioner pulley here by global airmail. It was 4.5kg in weight, total, so I'd say it's expensive in comparison to UK Royal Mail prices. As for part costs however, they were the only ones I found with 4 used dogbones (I feel somewhat silly using this term, but "upper/lower lateral link from rear suspension" takes way too much of my precious time 8) ), 20 pounds a piece, reportedly in "good working condition". New PS tensioner pulley was 71.95GBP, so they're generally dearer than Camskill, in both parts prices and shipping costs, but can provide used parts for less than half the usual cost of new one - in general that is, and from my own experience.

all parts are in place already and installed, except for 1x Long Dogbone (Rear left upper latteral link) with bolt/s. If anyone would have a spare one, please let me know as otherwise I'd be forced to get one from SPMotors, and pay just as much for the postage as I will for the part itself :/
