I think the vacuum sensor on my car is acting up. Got a price on a replacement one today and they are €165 + vat
Before I spend that kind of money on one I want to be certain that it is actually the sensor that is the problem.
Would somebody be so kind as to let me borrow their sensor and put it my car for 5 minutes?
The sensor is located just under the bonnet bolted to the bulkhead. Its held on by only one bolt and can be changed in 2 minutes.
I'm in Clondalkin and can drive anywhere to you.
If anybody can help me out it would be much appreciated.

Aidan, did you try the likes of Camskill for a price? Also, did you try and and flash diagnostic codes out of the ECU? You're welcome to drop over to Clonsilla some evening and try out the vacuum sensor from my GPX, pm me offline if you're interested....

What problem(s) have you got that led you to suspect this is faulty?

I changed the knock sensor about a week ago. I had to take off the manifold, the injectors and the throttle body in order to get at the sensor. After I put everything back together the engine revs very high at idle. It idles at 2000rpm when cold and 1500rpm when warm. My first suspicion was an air leak due to the manifold or throttle body not sealed correctly. Rather than strip everything down again I decided to do an ecu error check.
The ecu gave me an error code of 32, which is the vacuum sensor.
After CJ kindly offered to help I decided to double check the ecu code before bothering him unnessasarily. But this time I disconnected the battery for a minute or so to clear out any old error codes. After doing this the ecu reported no errors. I must have disturbed the sensor while working on the car and the ecu just stored the code.
So all that leads me back to my original suspicion, an air leak. I'm going to strip it all down again over the weekend and check all seals and gaskets.

On a lighter note, after I replaced the knock sensor the Mivec started working and for the first time since I got the car I got to experiance the wonder of Mivec.

Yes maud, you were 100% right. The past week I've been looking for excuses to go out in the car. As you said at the meet its like a completely different car. I absolutly love it.
Hopefully, if I sort out this idle problem over the weekend I'll be even more happy.
I'm also getting the bodywork (peeling laquer and dents on passenger wing) sorted out on Saturday morning. Getting it done for €400, which I think is fairly resonable.
Its all starting to come together now, next on my list are new boots. Does anybody know if there are any deals on Goodyear Eagle F1's in DTAS?

I check eiretyres often, f1's are €126.50 each at the mo. After paying someone to fit them I'm looking at about €550 all in. DTAS were selling them for €130 each back in January - I'm assuming that price includes fitting. I know that was only a special for January but hopefully the price would be the same now. For €550 I could probably talk them into doing the tracking as well

I'd say it will be a long time before I have her kitted out the way I want her. I've a list the length of my arm of things I want to get but one look at my credit card statement usually puts a halt to my plans.
