turning my FTO a bit German...

VW style blue & red climate control and gauges
Image

This was a particular pig of a job to do, as I decided to install individual LED's for each button rather than just replace the two lighting bulbs with LED's, reason being I wanted different coloured lights for different buttons.

VW style rear badging

Also got ultra bright 4 LED side lights in anticipation of the HID's I ordered last week.

I didn't think anyone else was stupid enough to go doing it, so I didn't check any DIY sections!
I could do it again in half an hour now I've done it before!

(will get some nighttime pics, the reason I went for that particular choice of colours on the climate control was to match the DVD

I like the 1 led per button thing in the aircon control - I might copy that slightly.. ;-)
I've been thinking about UV leds for the dials - thought they might work well with the white dials.

There must be a wire you can cut going to the aircon unit that tells it when the lights are on. cut this and your unit won't dim. (I'd imagine)

The off button on the stereo is red, that's the reason it's red on the C/C unit too!

I've seen a fix for the light dimming somewhere.. try the greas-monkey section on the uK site..

Speedo LED's arrived today. 1 of them is defective. (only tried 6 of the 10 so far...) hard to tell what they're like in the daylight.

I'm planning to do my dials with LEDs. Is there any specific kind that you'd advise or will the ones they sell in Halfords do the job?

Also one of the bulbs in my Aircon needs replacing. Is it easy enough to do or is it a fiddly pain-in-the-arse job?

plain LED's wont do (unles you fit somehow hundreds of them)
i think the best think to do is order ''special'' coloured bulbs( like colm did)

about the air cond bulb - its not a hard job .. patience is your friend , be carefull not to break the stereo surround plastic (common thing )

I have some free Aircon bulbs if you want one.
I replaced mine with push-in LED's that I ordered off ebay. Halfords don't
stock them.

I certainly won't say no to a free bulb, excellent thanks!

I had a poke around on eBay earlier and I'm thinking of these for the dash: http://cgi.ebay.ie/LED-Dash-Speedo-Bulb ... dZViewItem

Are they the same ones you bought?

There's loads of things floating around my head that I want to do with the car, don't know where to start. Arg!

they're the ones I ordered, i got 8 small ones and 2 big ones, haven't figured out where the 2 big ones go, think they might be for illuminating the climate control display.
