"Nice Car"

Postby Uncle B » Fri Jul 10, 2009 12:24 am

Meant to mention this earlier but about 2 weeks ago I was moving through slow traffic, when a passer by (in his late 20's) stopeed suddenly and started gawking at the car, he then crouches down to get to my level and says "nice car, man" whilst giving me 2 thumbs up. Thought it might have been one of you guys on seeing him?

I've also have a few children mention "cool car" to their parents or friends as well as a few older teens/early 20's say somthing along the lines of "an FTO, no waaayy" on numerous occasions too.

So do ye find random strangers paying wonderful compliments to your car on a regular basis?
Makes you feel like the extortionate insurance premium is worth it!
Get out of here Nebulon! No one likes your style...

All the time, it's great.

Real head turner, that's for sure.

If they really stare and I have the chance I'll turn on the mivec for them ;)

The day I collected the blue FTO, Was driving trough Santry, and some rough enough kids shouted "cool car man", then on the same trip some teenager shouted something like "rapid car" at me as I was going over O'Connell bridge.
I thought this would be par for the course from there on, but oddly enough it never happened too often after that time.

Happened going through Kinsale when we had the meet down there, a lad that was about 15 turned to his friend and said j's look at all the FTO's! Rare enough someone that age knows what they are. Younger kids are gas though, they have none of this 'pride' crap and have no problem pointing as you drive by, or they sit on the wall and wave as you drive by, always return the favour if I see them, when I was that age I would have been chuffed if someone driving a sports car waved back.

I've had similar happen a few times, mostly from kids though. I even had a girl ask me was it ok to take a picture of the GS one day when I was parked in Lucan village, I thought that was a bit mad.
On one occasion I was even propositioned, hard to believe but true. There was a group of 5 girls around the age of 16 passing as I got out of the car and one shouted "Hey mister nice car give us a ride, and I dont just mean of the car." I didn't know whether it was me or the car she found appealing but for the sake of my ego we'll say it was me.
Wish I/it had that effect on all women, life would be so much easier.

I suppose knowing that would have put them off. Women generally aren't too keen on things known for a lack of performance.

When I first got my FTO no one knew what it was, they found it hard to believe it was a 15 year old car and thought it cost way more than I payed. Kids in my neighbourhood think the FTO is the coolest thing despite the fact there is an impreza wrx at one end of my street and an evo 9 at the other 8)

Ya but Colm you're forgetting the Hyundai Coupe puts out a massive 115 horsepower!! While the ultimate Hyundai Coupe, 2.7 litre engine, puts out an absolute whopping 172 horsepower!!!! I mean thats almost only 25 short of an FTO which has 700cc less!

and how do you "turn on the mivec for them" Laura??? im sorry now but uve mentioned this thing of people staring at you when you hit mivec, the only timei have people looking at my car when im driving is through towns (which im gonna guess is where they see your car too) and to be perfectly honest its not the smartest or safest in the world to be drivin in mivec within town speed limits!! :k

i dunno about the rest of ye but to me that is exactly what i believe you used call in college "knackering around in cars" and i do recall you were very again said "knackering".
Oh how things change eh?

On topic, I love the stares my car gets!!! :D was driving into the carpark in town and 3 young lads stood there gawping at my car and when i got up to the next level there was a lad with his mother and he said to her (my window was down so i heard him) Oh my god look at that sports car! :

to be honest i think girls get more attention in FTO's than fellas!! any lads in their 20's that see my car seem to take a second look when they see a girl is drivin!!

No insecurities about my performance, a good time is always had (as far as I'm concerned anyway). :D It was just a little joke, a double entendre if you will. I suppose how you interperit it depends on what sort of mind you've got. I guess it proves you've got a dirty mind Gary,

No, I actually said people stare at me in general, and if I get a chance I'll open up mivec. There are footpaths and 60/80km zones in the country like? (where I drive most of the time) You don't need to be doing 100 to hit mivec? As it is I still only hit mivec about once a week and that's ususally on a DC. I wouldn't have the car very long if I was doing in all the time in Limerick...

And yes, driving at stupid speeds through a town I still consider "knackering around" Every time I mention using mivec you always bring it up, can it stop please as it's getting a bit old now.

I remember distinctively one day when I was sat in the car and drooling over an M3, when the owner and his young son got out and the son started jumping up and down shouted "Daddy, look at that cool car!!!"

Daddy wasn't very impressed. Especially when I started laughing.

Oh! Just happened again outside KFC! Those exact words from 3 boys on roller blades, I gave them the thumbs up and they were like to one of them "What did she do?!" and he says "She gave me the thumbs up!!" So excited they were, bless their little cotton socks :)
