Leaking boot

hey guys this is an easy one but i don't want to mess it up.

I have water coming in the boot. so much that im thinking of adding fish to it.
I presume (99% sure) that its the lights so i bought silicone so seal it up, so how do you do it.

do you have a rubber seal around the boot?

I'm not sure it's the lights check it properly!

yeah seb there is seal around the boot and looks fine. im thinking its the light s as i can see where the water is coming from and its coming from under the lights and the plastic compartments at the side of the boot where the cd changer sits.

I thought it was the arial area as i don't have one but i sealed it up a few days ago so thats not it

Check the Spoiler as well sometimes if the holes are missing the seals it can leak inside.
I'm finding hard to belive it's the tail lights

Its not an aftermarket spoiler is it? I'd be inclined to go with Seb and think it was spoiler holes or somewhere around there.

I have a TopMix Spoiler on mine and the hole in the middle (left from standard) it's covered only with a plastic clip , it's not leaking MAD but i can feel a little wet bootcarpet when i check after a heavy rain

its not an aftermarket spoiler just the standard spoiler, but the carpet and wood setting as dry so it might not be coming from the spoiler. To be on the safe side i'll silicone around the boot seal and check the spoiler, any suggestions on the lights???

Dont go mad on silliconing the whole boot now
must be an easy fix , check step by step all the usual leaking points

it's virtually impossible for it to be the lights.

I'm guessing the car got a smack on the back and there's a leak around the spare wheel footwell. FTOs aren't known for boot leaks and the high boot lip combined with the placement of the light clusters outside of the bodywork (whole unit has to be removed to change bulbs) mean something out of the ordinary is happening.

Water in the boot in some cars can sometimes be caused by water in the cabin working its way back to the boot, leaks from a sunroof etc.
Does your FTO have a sunroof and if so is there any marks on the headlining or is it wet?

Have you checked the condition of the bodywork from underneath?

There is no sun roof but there is a small crack on the left hand side of the bumper where the crease is on the bumper meets the body so it did have a smack at some stage.

Would that have dislodged the boot even by a small fraction? Enough for it not to be noticeable to the eye but that it would let water in?

i just bought it a few days ago so i don't know how bad it was. I'll have a good luck 2moro and silicone everything I can lol

Remove the rear seat and plastic corrugated section behind the seat, all in, it will take you less than 10mins. Remove the plastic sections behind the lights. Get a torch and have someone hose down the boot while you check for leaks from the back seat.

ok guys i found the problem
A small hairline crack on the left side below the light. so i siliconed the inside of it..... will i be worth my while taking off the bumper and siliconing the outside???

Prob not worth taking the bumper off. you may be shocked at what you find anyway!

well i got it siliconed and the boot put back together so im going to wait till it rains and see.
if not i still got some more silicone... best invention ever

It reminds me a bit of Father Ted or something, fixing the car with the hammer.
If you think silicone is great you should try some painter's caulk! That'll blow your mind altogether!

just an update
the boot is water tight and was just a small crack i had to fill in with the silicone
