Give Joe a ring, MFFTO recommended him to me and I can't complain.
He works at Lyons on the ballysimon road, I left the car with him there when he serviced it for me...

I'll PM you his number.

Ok Bernard quoted me €400.00, that seams kinda high to be honest? If I was to go with that it's coming to around €650.00 so weather I ordered the parts myself or not I'm back to square one?

There's a list of all the parts I got fitted here: http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6242

All the parts are for a manual GPX...

If it was me - I wouldn't trust someones else's word that they changed the timing belt. If the problem is the water pump then you are better off also changing the timing belt while you are at it. Neither part is particularly expensive - its the labour that costs.

Waterpump:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b0s596p441

Cambelt (+ tensioner & ancillary belts if these haven't been changed recently). http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p1287

Thanks a million lad's for listing to me rant and rave and blow off some steam bit calmer now, ordered the parts last night when I finished work, I ordered them from Camskill like Shane said, hope I got the right ones now though there was loads to choose from!

Just really mad at the twit I bought it from he asured me all the belts were just done! Sure if that was the case the pump would have had to be changed it's self, he's was from Kerry, John was his name? He was giving me the number of the fto specialist in Kerry so he could confirm all the belts were done! But I foolishly took his word for it since he was going to so much bother to prove it to me. He left his door key on the car keys when he gave them to me, wish I hadn't posted it back to him now! :x ha...

Got quoted €250.00 yesterday for labour? What do you think of that? Reasonable?

who quoted you 250e? and what was that for?
is the waterpump leaking ?

Did you actually confirm it was the pump leakin before ordering the parts. It most likely is the pump but could be a number of other things.

If it is loosing water that fast then it should be simple to see where it is comin from.

Rad .
Rubber hoses.
Is there water in leaking into the engine oil.

Marie - You really need to confirm the cause of the problem before you start ordering parts. From the sounds of it you are still driving the car - if the waterpump was gone you wouldn't be able to go more than 1/2 mile without risking lunching your engine so it may be something else.

Get a GOOD mechanic to take a look - Joe knows FTO's as well as Paul Nolan at this stage - he has worked on several on a regular basis over the past few years. He has his own garage/Ramp set-up at his home in Co Limerick - which is likely to be too far for you to drive the FTO in its current state.

€400 does sound a bit much - did you tell him you would supply the waterpump and cambelt? I had a full service on the Zed with him last week + fitted Eibach suspension for €200. I think €300-€350max would be closer the mark for labour for a waterpump and cambelt change.

I'm keeping my powder dry for the meet!
Lot more done to the Zed recently than suspension but with the bad weather I've been unable to take decent pics. Recently added INgs sideskirts, Ings full rear bumper, Nismo CF blade rear spoiler and several misc CF bits but I've to finish off fitting some CF bits like mirrors and B pillar before I'll post the pics.

My tyres are now down to the markers as well - Cheapest quote I can find after several calls for RE050's (or similar) is €1200  for 275/40 18 (rear) and 245/40 18 (front).

Its been an expensive month between tax (€1343), bodykit & fitting (€K's),service (€400 parts + €200 for service) and now €1200 for tyres. And I thought if I bought a Zed I wouldn't spend money on it.

Yes I told him I'd ordered all the part's, and he asked did I get them from camskill? & I said yes? Then when he told me where he was, I said would that not be too far to drive the car? And he said no it will be grand, told me he would need it for a few day's? At that price I might aswell go to a proper garage and they would have it all done in the one day?
I'm ok for a car I'm driving my vectra, so at least I can shop around for the right price, the fela who quoted me €250.00 is a lad from St.Marys park Philip something? One of the girls in work has a micra and he looks after her car, yes I know big difference in car size but hey he was worth a ring, I heard later from a few of the lads in limerick from racers heaven to stay well clear from him, he's only a panin-beater? He hasn't a clue about engines? Then someone gave me a number for a man by the name of tricky? His name alone put me off plus the fact he said he's do it for €100.00, I'm kinda counting on this guy I'm meeting today Ger Ryan small machanic from southhill?

Take my advice and just bite the bullet - give your car to Joe this Friday evening - you'll have it back on Sunday. I very much doubt any of your above "mechanics" know the first thing about changing the waterpump/cambelt on an FTO. If the cambelt is put on incorrectly you will have further serious complications. If someone quoted me €100 to change a cambelt and waterpump then I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole as they obviously haven't a clue about the work involved. Joe knows exactly how long its gonna take him and priced it accordingly. Give him a call and tell him you got lower quotes and can he do the job for €350?

I agree 100% with MFFTO.
Get the job done right first time, it'd probably work out cheaper in the end, plus you'd have peace of mind...

Given that I am 70 miles from limerick, wouldnt recommend towing it. I wolud reckon 4-5 absolute hours max to change the pump and belt. Not sure what mechanics rate is but 400 is alot. almost 100 an hour.

Try and bargain him down, give him the girly sob story and maybe a few tears, never kknow it might work.

My timing belt was done for €220. No offense to Joe, but he isnt the nicest fellow to deal with and he is very expensive. Plus you gotta get the car to him.
I have a spare water pump as well, it wont fit the GR, I think its a GPx, cant be sure though.

Ok Sorry for the delay in up date was in cork yesterday to see highschool musical on ice! Wicked cool actually! But Traffic on the way out :smt018 it took us 1hr45mins to get out of the car park! :x

Anyway back to the up-date! Had to get new tyres on the vectra Wednesday after work, so I rang home to tell my dad that I'll be a bit late collecting the child, was telling him why, and he said one of the local lads James Grimes "Thomand Tyres" is after opening up on Killeely road to go support him, so I thought alright tyres are all pretty much the same price might aswell go to James! His Tyres are for nothing dirt cheap I got 4 Pirelli tyres for €215.00euro! Tyres not remold's seriously worth a look! Even for the low profile tyres he's at least €15.00 cheaper per tyre than anybody else!!! Anyway I was telling James my troubles and he said knock in next door a new machanic opened in there "S&E Machanic's"& off I went, was talking with Surge, and he said he's very familer with the car he has worked on quite a few of them! Quoted me €400.00 to fix! :( also, then I realised I hadn't told him I've all the part's got myself, and then he quoted me €130.00 SOLD!!! :D Dropped the car down to him last night and he said he'll have it ready in 3 hour's! And he did!!! Car is perfect! He gave it a full servis also, and is so confident of what a good job he did, is willing to stand over the part's!!!! For all the lad's close or far I would seriously recommed "Thomand tyres" James, & "S&E Machanic's" Surge, two lads's only open & aren't in the trade long enough to get greedy with the whole money side! They genuinely just want to make a good name for them selves for selling and repairing at a very high standard at afforable costs!

Its a fellow out the newport road. He did the belts job for me, however I take it to Dean Power in Garryowen now though. Hes much closer to me, and knows his stuff. He does stuff for 40 an hour.
