Alloys downgrading 18" -> 17"

Postby gabico » Sun Jul 22, 2007 7:32 pm

First thing that I decided to change in my FTO to make it less bumpy is to change the 18" alloys to 17" ones.
The alloys are made by Toora and the tires are Falken 235/40/18. The back tires look good and the front ones will need to be changed in the near future.
here is a picture with one of the alloys
Image
There are some kerb marks on all of them but nothing very serious.
I would like to swap these to some 17" alloys in similar condition. I can send high res images with all 4 alloys if someone is interested in swapping.
I really like the enkei evo ones but they are pretty rare as far as I understand. I can trow in some cash if you have something really nice.
Thanks

The first picture doesn't do justice to these alloys. They really look good on the car but as I understood the combination coilovers/18" doesn't go too well for the comfort thats why I want to change them.
Here is another picture

I can also accept offers on them so I can buy other alloys.
Thanks

I'd say you might be hard pressed to find someone to put 18s on their car. You might be lucky and get someone though. Do they fit any other cars? Might get a better chance swapping to a boy racer where size is everything type thing. :?

I was going to suggest that you try octane.ie - other japs cars have the same stud pattern so you might have more luck over there..

Yup 114.5 :-) I believe the center bore is 67 - - it should have all this information on the alloy itself.. On mine it's stamped into the back of the rim..

Don't think so Sebi
CJ said that I have coilovers from the pictures I posted in my first post. The top mounts are cusco and they are adjustable as far as I can tell. Also there is an eibach springs sticker on the car ...
Like I said I don't know too much about cars but I want to learn..
After I change the wheels I want to take care off the exhaust. I have a 5ziegen one and is too loud for me so Ill try to swap it for a more quite one.
Thanks

I don't know how the original exhaust sounds like.. Do any of you have an audio recording of the sound?
If there is a good condition original exhaust and its quite enough I wouldn't mind swamping my 5ziegen for it.
I should really take a picture of what's under the car and post the picture here for advice.

wow - you shouldnt have any dificultys of swaping a 5ziegen for an original one ( everybody is upgrading ).
maybe your 5z it's not in a good cond that why its so loud . i would check it if i was you.

but if you would like a new purchase check camskill or RRocket for a quote on a new exhaust sistem

i might be interested in that 5z . after all

5 (5 stud) x 114.3 - centre bore is 67.1 - The points make all the difference. You'll also need to be aware of the offset of the 18's you have on the car.

Its unlikely that you'll get this wheel to fit many cars apart from the FTO. Its not your typical 4 x 100 wheel that the vast majority of modified car owners are looking for. It may fit a Supra, 350Z, RX8 and EVO dependant on offset - as yours is an aftermarket wheel - all the buyer will need is the relevant sized siggot rings to correctly seat the wheel on their car (presuming they have a 5 X 114.3 stud pattern) and possibly spacers if the offset is too small.

Gabico you will swap that exhaust on here no problem. 5Zigen are a very good japanese exhaust. You could consider a mongoose too which are not much louder over standard. I think in your original picture of the engine bay you had a HKS cone too? A standard airbox assembly would make the car quieter too. I have a 5zigen and standard airbox and its not loud at all. but if yours is LOUD you should chek it out. It might be leaking. It should be almost silent on idle.

Thanks guys.
Ill see what I can do about the alloys. Ill look at the them tonight maybe I can get more details.
Regarding the exhaust: On idle or on constant speed I cannot hear it. Its getting loud when accelerate. Ill try to record the sound maybe you can tell me then how it is. None of my friends told me that is too loud or anything its more of a personal issue.
I plan to take care of this car and hold on to it for some time thats why I would like to "adjust" it to suit me better.
I registered and taxed the car (bought it from uk) so now I have to prepare it for NCT. I don't know how this exhaust will influence the emissions test. If the car will fail I will have to replace it with something that will help me pass the test. If it will pass I can replace it with anything I want.
But I want to change the wheels either way. If the car will still be bumpy with 17", I will work on the suspension.
Any idea of how much should I ask for these alloys?

You should be alright emissions wise if the cat is still on there and working correctly..

and they look very nice gas-man, but hows the ride?

I found some evo 7 alloys that I want to buy this weekend. I was after the enkei evo 8 ones but I couldn't find them at a decent price.
