Dial faces

Postby ek9 » Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:48 pm

Hi everyone ..new year just got my first fto. It's a black 95 gpx.
Its got Kmc white dials on it but it doesnt have a kmh>mph converter so the miles are km's.
Looking to get original dial faces if anyone has a set they want to sell ..or are the old ones under the white ones??

...Thanks! ..Ian

Are they glow dials or just normal white ones ?

The dials should show kms as standard .
there is only one way to find out if you have the black dials underneath the white ones .
It's an easy enough procedure and shouldn't take long then 5 mins

i could say the black original dials are underneath, but then whos to say the original bloke who put em in didnt do a full-on job lol... wouldnt it just be waaaay easier to buy the speedo convertor ?
the dials youre talking of removing are quite a sought after item, specially if theyre the lighty- uppy one lol :p

+1
KMC dials (especially the older ones) are hard to get hold of and chances are that either they or the originals dials underneath would be damaged if you remove them. Better to fit the converter/delimiter.

Spray contact adhesive won't destroy the dial face, the plastic is quite hardy. I cleaned up an old set with Fingernail Polish remover, and a terry cloth.

Use the unscented Fingernail Polish Remover to avoid the loss of man-points tho.

Yea had a go with the nail polish remover last night ..it was a scented one though! :r Whatever glue it is, it's bloody strong!
Got most of it off but the dials still look awful. Besidies now I feel like i'd be doing wrong by removing the kmc dials!! :smt003 ,Looks like a converter is in order, will this cause the odometer to go up in miles after? seems like a pain

Cheers lads!

If they're the older style (non-180mph KMC's), you won't need a converter for them. You need a converter if you want to plug in a 180mp/h dial.

Not sure about the odo reading thing. I figured if I ever wanted to bother with a converter I'd just send the unit off and get a certificate with it. the FTO-Shop (FTOOC's own) does it, but you'll be without a guage cluster for a bit...

From a personal standpoint, I can't really see the reason for a 180mp/h speedo; If you're really going to go 120mph plus, you should get the gratification of burying the needle. Then again, I'm usually used to the 3/4 mark on a dial for traveling on the highway, so having a 180mph dial would probably be a bit detrimental to my insurance/health...

Suit yourself, but if you're looking to convert the odo, I would consider having it professionally done with a certificate (they'll change the odometer to it's actual miles setting, not some wonky "okay, it did 98'420 in KM's and I converted it and have done 8,000 miles, so... carry the two, divide by R, what's the square root of eleven again" calculation that's going to cause a migraine.)

Yeah they're the 180mph dials. I'll look into that conversion on ftooc. Thanks lads! :smt002
