Illuminated door cills

Postby Dragonheart » Sun Jan 04, 2009 12:21 am

Anyone ever changed the colour of these? I have them and they're a greeny blue colour, but I want to change them to red, dont know if its a case of changing leds or small bulbs or how easy or possible it is, or even if it can be done!
Thanks.

If they're the ones I'm thinking of, they're not lit by LED's, they're EL (electroluminescent) sheets. Its looks like a sheet of plastic, and the whole things lights up uniformly.
You can get them on ebay as per here, and you can get them in red. And simply cut it down to size.
So, in answer, it can be done, and shouldn't be too hard. :)

Yup thats the one alrite as Tom said, be careful installing, the inverter puts out a whoping 102volts AC, can give u a bit of a wake up call if you get hit :D,

" The intensity of the light varies when the voltage, frequency or both are changed. In order to allow the user many different possibilities, developed 4 kinds of inverters; low power/ low frequency, low power/ high frequency, high power/ low frequency, high power/ high frequency."

The FTO defiantly uses the high Power system.

Will it be a straight swop you reckon? Like do I just cut the wire leading from the existing plate and tie in the new one or does new wiring have to be installed as well? Obviously I'll be disconnecting the battery before doing this to limit the chance of shock.

Never changed mine just fixed the two neons and re-soldered the inverter unit when it went faulty,

Looking at the strips i reckon you'll have to snip the old ones off at the base of the neons strip back the new neon + / - feed and solder, not hard at all,

Unless you can buy new Neons with connectors already on them? Neons on FTO go into female plug to the inverter not sure if there a standard looks similar to the stuff on ebay.

*Neon = electroluminescent :D
