Club pricing - Discount Tyre and Auto Services

Postby CJ » Fri Oct 28, 2005 6:48 pm

I was speaking with the owner of Discount Tyre and Auto Services in Blanchardstown, he's keen to set up a club discount scheme with FTO-Ireland and other car clubs. What I need from you guys is a listing of your current tyre sizes and your preferred brand so as I can give Rob an idea of what we would be looking for. Please add your details to the list below. They have an excellent 4-wheel alignment system in place, I had my alignment sorted today and the car is now handling fantastically :) Their number is 8119097, they're based in Ballycoolin, ask for Rob and mention FTO-Ireland. Anyway, lets start the list:

Name................Tyre size..............Preferred brand/model
CJ....................215/45/17.............Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3

CJ - out of interest, I wonder will this guy beat the prices of Tallaght Tyres (gave me the best quotes in the past) ?

Also, how about Dave McCann - we give him a lot of business on the tracking and his business is tyres too ?

Any news on this cause I need to get 2 new tyres asap as I've got a bubble/buldge in the sidewall of 2 of mine. Ideally looking for Eagle F1's GSD3 - might have to go with eiretyres.

Guys, I've dropped in the list of tyre sizes to Rob in Discount Tyre and Auto, in the mean time, if you want to avail of a club discount, print off and fill out the membership card below, you can use this to get discounts on a number of the services that they offer:

Thanks for the Work CJ, they knew the club and the discount!!!

I rang them today, looking for a set of Toyos and they were insistent that they weren't that good in the wet! and gave bad mileage (agreed) so they suggested Verdestiens (you know what I mean) or Goodyear F1s for around 145 a corner

What do you think? I was fairly sure about the Toyos and I'm willing to put a lot of money into a good set of tyres!

Toyos have good dry grip, I can't comment on wet grip as I've never actually used them, one of the other guys can probably comment.

They do seem to be pushing the Vredsteins Ultracs alright, I've heard good things about them but again, never used 'em.

On that basis, I'd be inclined to go with the Eagle F1 GSD3s, they're an all around good tyre that consistantly perform in tyre tests. That said, I'd like to give the Ultracs a try out, I'll see if I can find any reviews...

I keep seeing you guys (ie those that are in the know  ) quote the "Eagle F1 GSD3s". In relation to the GSD3 element of this - are there different types of Eagle F1's, and if so what are the other versions (should they be avoided).

I've been quoted hugely diferent prices for Eagle F1's on the same day, from €260 each to €150 each, if there are different types maybe that explains the difference in price!

GSD3 is the most recent revision of the tyre, they're musch better than previous versions in terms of wet grip. I run GSD2s and while they're great in the dry, wet grip isn't fantastic.

I'm in the same boat - I'm looking for some new tyres. I ran Toyo's on my GR and I thought they were brilliant in both wet and dry. Interesting that these guys don't rate them cause Dave McCann said the same thing to me last time I was in with him - still I thought they were good.

As for the Vredesteins - AFAIK these are just rebadged continentals. I've no idea what they are like but the tread pattern is very cool looking and they're priced similar to the F1's and Toyo's on eiretyres.net at around 155 euro.

I've never run the F1s but most guys on the uk-mkivs.net golf forum swear by the F1s - particularly the GSD3's. At 145 a corner fitted (if that's what he can do) I'd be tempted to take 4 ;)

If I had a cent for every tyre guy who told me his cheap brand (Champiro,Nankang etc) was a rebadged Bridgestone, Pirelli etc then I'd probably have about 60c

Firestone/Bridgestone link I can understand - but the vast majority are talking through their proverbial.
