I like..

Continental Sport Contact 3
BF Goodridge G-Force Profiler

in the wet..

I've also tried Toyo Proxies ( I think they were TR something or other) and they were fine up till the point where they'd obviously worn out...very strange feeling that...they went from fine to very very bad in the space of a week or so. - no grip at all.. but while they were good they were very good..however they were certainly best in the dry.

stay well clear of

Black Diamond
Champiro GT
Triangle
Stunner

Black diamond are alright if you're not wanting to accelerate brake or steer..be it dry or wet conditions..theres a consistent performance from these "tyres".

Champiro GT, alright in the dry as long as you dont do anything too sudden.. in the wet they're atroucious.

Triangle, very similar to Black diamond but with much less grip..

last but not least..

Stunner

the name says it all really... you'll be stunned by how much you can be asked to pay for what is essentially a badly made hulahoop..it has all the handling properties of a hulahoop... I'll say no more on that matter..

I'm stating the obvious here I know..

the tyres are the only contact point between the road and your car .. this means any mods, performance, brakes or otherwise essentially are only as good as the tyres one chooses to stick on ones car...

I've made mistakes in the past... but ultimately...saving on tyres...is a bad thing.

DTAS have a good selection, and if you're after something specific Rob will usually get it in for you... I understand a few peeps have bought from CAMSkill.

Top Performance tyres -

Goodyear Eagle F1
Pirelli P Zero Nero
Bridgestone RE050
Toyo T1R

Value Performance tyres worth considering -

These fellas are gonna be similar money to the F1's and a great alternative - longer life and less road noise, excellent all round tyres IMO (have stuck 'em on 2 FTOs).

If you've a big wad of cash, I can highly recommend Micheilin Pilot Sport SP3's - best tyres I've put on a car - period.

Can recommend Toyo T1Rs, currently on the VR-4 - soft compound (i.e. grippy) but reasonably well wearing all things considered.

What ever you do, don't penny-pinch on tyres (especially if you're prone to spirited driving).

I'm on Potenza's, have nothing to really compare them too so I'm no good. I do find they could be grippier off the mark though. Maybe thats just the front wheel drive but its hard to take off fast without the spin...

Bridgestone Potenzas for me, find they wear pretty slowly and are good on grip, really noticeabel when you change them first.

I recently purcased 2x 16" Toyo proxies from camskill, and had them fitted and balanced totalling €89 per corner. That was before the UK VAT rate was cut and the ar$e fell out of sterling. Given the exchange rate advantage I'd say camskill will be considerably cheaper than eiretyres at present.

At Maud I really like the thread pattern on the GF Goodrich G profiler -similar to the Eagle FI GSD3. And they look like a good 'premium economy' option but I thought they felt very hard to the touch, Yer man fitting the toyo's confirmed the same (relative to the toyo's now). IIRC he was offering the G profilers at €85 a corner fitted.

i must add, I have never had them on a track etc or driven hard in the wet or anything, but they were excellent for daily driving.

That must have been a different size that what I had cause I paid a darn slight more than that for mine (or maybe there are more variants..) it's been a while now but I seem to remember that I got them for 175e each..

as far as I recall they were r18 225 35 but I could be wrong on that too..

cracking tyres all the same in my book..

Have Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on now, can't fault them. Tried Federal Super Steels, grip wasn't great, and after a while they seemed to go out of shape which caused vibration... Had Dunlop Sport ones on the 16" alloys for a while, seemed fine (had Eagle F1s at the back and Dunlops at the front).

I think they're the same as anything else, you get what you pay for.

I found the ideal size for 17's on the FTO (on Irish roads at least) to be 215/45's. Don't forsee big probs with 40 on front and 45 on back though.

Out of your list above I'd be going for the P Zero Neros - lovely tyre in the dry (had a full set on a Racing Puma and they were fantastic) though its soft compound will also mean fairly limited miles.

thanks shane

my problems are on the wet roads with the federals i have .

will keep the back (205/45) so cannot really put 215 on the front .
