Is there a trick to changing the plugs in a 98 Passat 1.8? I was taking a look at it for the Da and theres a close fitting metal collar around the plugs thats a b!tch to remove. I didn't want to end up with half a plug lead in my hand so left it alone. Any ideas?

We've done it a good few times at home (not me though) - I'll ask later what the story is with it.

Think we even have Haynes manuals for it - it was 96/97 that model came in wasn't it?

Oop now that I think of it its diesel Passats we've had... spark plug free zone! I'll see what we have.

my guy says to get a needle nose pliers and just pull the heat shield for the lead straight up. that's what the VW service guys do!
