Big Engine service - what have you done to date? : if none of the following have been addressed then I'd recomend:-

Timing belt (cambelt) and alt belt + PS belt + tensioner - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p1287

If changing timing belt then might as well change water pump (optional)while you are there (they generally don't last beyond the 2nd cambelt change): http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b0s596p441

Alt tensioner wheel:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p58

Cambelt pulley (optional): http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p440

Denso Irisium plugs: you'll need 6 : http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p451

If you're changing plugs then replace rocker cover gasket: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p59

Oil filter; http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s9p444

Camskill and Ricerocket would both stock the Timingbelt kits.. I could be worthwhile replacing the waterpump as well.

edit..
Oh wow we posted at the same time :-)

Do you need to change the rocker cover gasket to do the plugs? I know you should replace the inlet manifold gaskey but I think the rocker cover will be untouched.

Also, Miss Enzo, Camskill advised me that I didn;t need to change the camb belt tensioner unless it was leaking because they are not prone to leaking on the FTO. The galant ones do leak though, but the FTO one he said should be fine. Mine was bone dry during the belt change.

Yes you are correct McGon - just goes to show what happens when time passes after owning the FTO. I did however replace both inlet manifold and rocker cover gasket ( and put a slight squeeze on the bolts to prevent a small oil leak) - I also replaced the cambelt tensioner and waterpump cause I find the most expensive parts of these jobs is the labour as opposed to the parts so while its stripped down now was as good a time as any. I got burnt previously in the FTO when a couple of months after I had a cambelt replaced I then had to replace the waterpump.

what symptmos happen when the waterpump fails anyways? leaking water? noise? overheating?

yeah I did my rocker gaskets 3 weeks ago too for the same reaosns to fix a small leak. they were very loose. In fact a tighten may have fixed it. 3.4NM indeed. mine were about 2NM. replaced anyways and seems fine now :D

Car overheats basically - water starts boiling and escaping into the expansion tank.

I noticed mine within seconds of the pump going - the water temp guage shot up within a minute.

Alt tensioner wheel...new one on me. How can I identify if this needs to be replaced?
I'll be doing my belts soon after Christmas, I might as well get it right first time.

The bearings go in these fairly easily - can often be the reason behind a noisy belt - my old one was shot when I examined it after replacing.

guys, Im not talking about the tensioner wheel. Im on about the gas tensioner. It's like a mini shock absorber...

this is the part.. http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b17s9p1070

It is recommended as part of the timing belt kit when you change the belt but it costs about 200 euro!!!! Or something ridiculous. The tensioner wheel should not need to be replaced unless it develops a fault.

no need to change this with part of a servise mate.
whoever told you that was just looking for the sale of it.
i have never seen any problems with any of the ftos i had with the gas tensioner.

The same part is prone to leak on the V6 galant for some reason and part of the timing change service. It's all good on the FTO though unless there is a sign of leakage.
