Another Starter problem......probably.

Postby baldtyres » Mon Jan 01, 2007 4:16 pm

Hi All,
Happy New Year etc. etc.
My car (GPX Mivec) has decided this morning only to start with a push or hill start. New battery was put in 2 weeks ago so thats not the problem. Anybody got any suggestions whether it's the starter motor or could it be anything else? If so, are they easily available in Eire or is it better to send away for one. I think it knew the NCT is booked for Wednesday 3rd Jan.
All opinions welcome!

Do you hear the starter relay click when you engage the ignition? A good bang of a hammer has been known to loosen a stuck starter motor in the past.

Yep, the click is there...I'll try the hammer and see if there is any luck!

Can anyone tell me where the starter motor is located?

Its on the left hand side of the engine as you're looking at the front of the car. If the hammer doesn't work, it will most likely be recon time...

I abandoned the hammer idea because I was about to start hitting everything. I just had a few stern words with the car. :smt093 :smt091

:smt017 if you're looking into the bonnet from the front bumper, its on the right hand side of the engine, isn't it? on the end of the camshaft?

I stuck my head under the front bumper and I think I found it slightly to the left of centre of the engine, it was getting dark and wet so I decided not to hit anything with the hammer.
I gave it to my mechanic this morning and could not contact him from afternoon onwards.......now I have no starter and no car.
I think it's time for a new motor.....I can't stand this f**king aggravation :smt073
