Climate Control and Shoddy Service

Postby alanmccormack » Thu Mar 04, 2004 10:46 am

Just a quick note to let you guys out there know about shoddy service and a company to avoid. If there are any of you out there that are experiencing trouble with your Climate Control or Air Conditioning or know anyone, even driving another car that is, DO NOT USE Darren Courtney OR Automotive Air Conditioning, based in Rathfarnham, Dublin.

They first came out to my car and topped up the Air Con fluid for €80 without checking if the system was OK, consequently the Air Con stopped working after a couple of days. I couldn’t get in contact with anyone at Automotive Air Conditioning to come and fix it, so I gave up, thinking that I would get everything sorted out the next time that the car was serviced.

After the service I rang Automotive Air Conditioning again and Darren said that he would come out the following Saturday and have a look at it. So I waited in all day Saturday and Darren didn’t show up, I rang him but there was no answer, so I left a message, but he never returned the call. I rang him on Monday, but again, there was no answer, so I left a message and again, he never returned the call. So I rang him on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and it was the same story. In fact I rang every day that week, leaving a message every time just asking Darren to give me a ring to arrange another time. Darren didn’t have the common courtesy to return any of my calls. In fact I never heard from Darren or anyone at Automotive Air Conditioning again.

On the flip side of the coin I found a brilliant Air Conditioning company called Auto Air in Meath. The engineer there, Brendan Kealy, was extremely knowledgeable, he ran a full pressure test to see if there was a leak in the system, repaired the condenser (Very, very expensive to buy from Mitsubishi), flushed the system and re-pressurised it with the Air Con fluid. The Climate Control is now as good as new for the exact same cost as the standard Air Con Top-Up. Good service above and beyond the call of duty.

I thoroughly recommend Auto Air for your FTO (mention Alan McCormack, he should remember me up there!).

I've spoken to this guy before and he seemed sound enough. I'll add his contact details to the Services page.

Good stuff, I'm glad that you've come across him before. He was a very nice guy, knew his stuff and saved me absolutely hundreds of Euro by repairing the condenser.

Steer clear of the git in Rathfarnham though!
