Not bad at all.... did you readjust the rev counter dial so the needle points down when turned off?

had to readjust the needle rest yes

Postby alloywheelsinternational » Fri Oct 07, 2005 5:25 pm

i had to drill a new piont for the needle rest but the dials came with a whole in so just marked them with heated screwdriver and drilled the plastic underneath.
took a bit of meddling but worked out ok i think.

That looks sweet.

So did you need to recalibrate the speedo or something?

Not really,

the simplest way to get your spedo right after changing the dials (well this is what i done) is to leave the plastic protection of the front of the console and replace it back into position but dont press the needles home just yet get a mate in a newish car (just so happened a mate of mine had a brand new car at the time) get them to drive to 60 and you follow when he reaches 60 and stays at it get your mate to give the hazzards then you adjust the position of the needle and press them home (also take note of the revs at 60 before you switch out the dials so you can get that one right at the same time)

Hope this does it for ya.

speeding all nite

Postby alloywheelsinternational » Sat Oct 08, 2005 12:35 am

dont talk to me about recolaborating!
i have been SPEEDING all nite!
speedo was not calobrated properly and i have been do'ing 40mph instead of 30 and 55 instead of 40! ( on teh speedo anyway)
glad i got some help in the recalibration. DAZ! your advice will be taken.
hate to admit it but thought i am being smart. sweet new dials but 4 x speeding tickets in 1 nite is more than i can take!" either the dials are a costly modification or i change the dials back! or even better get them calibrated corrctly!
have a good laugh on me so next time someone decides to go for a nice new dash conversion show them this thread!.

ANY HELP ON RECALIBRATION WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!

Mate did you get flashed 4 times in 1 night???! Seriously?

I don't think it as simple as "The Needle realigning procedure" might suggest - the movement of the needle is far to great. If you now what I mean.

According to your new dials when hitting the limited you'd be going 300kmph...now this should be just about 200kmph...so lets say you realign the needle..

What happens when you slow the car down to 0kmph - the needle will go off the scale.

I fear you will need some electronics here mate.

Al is right - your clocks are presently still calibrated for kmh - on a 0-180 kmp scale - you need to get either a 0-120mph dial (and read in MPH) or a 0-180kmph dial (and read in KM/H) . The 0-180 mph dial will be off for obvious reasons unless recalibrated.

I've put 0-180 mph stainless steel dials into my car.
Its the exact same ratio as the 0-180 kmh dials so I just read it as KMH.

Worked for me!!!! Ok NOI but I find it strange for you to say it won't work where is your proof in that statment if you said i don't think it would work, well that would be different but your so sure it wont work how????? where i have the proof in that it worked perfectly for me... i think that you mustn't of understood what it was that i said?

YA see MFFTO understands what i ment... you have yor mate driving at 60 and you set up the needle just at the 100 mark (100 klm is 62 mph) yes the dial says 100 mph but the thing is that you just take it as 100klm trust me it works........

LOL. no jokling regarding the speeding tickets i was actually driving slower than i should have been so fuel consumption had been saved..
i think i need to get a new white 120mph dial the same and stick with the 120 mph clocks.,

daz is this what you had done with your dials and worked or worked almost as i do not really want to have to buy a full dial kit for the 120 mph face.
any advice is appreciated guys.

Yep i fitted the stainlees dials several years ago to my black fto, yep they are in mph but the are identical to the klm dials in the spacing of the numbers, so forget about them being labled mph and just use them as if the were klm so set up your needle at just 100 when your mate ahead of you is driving at 60. it works a treat!!

daz, have a close look at both clocks..........
1/ standard clock, if needle travels 180 degrees it reaches 140kph
2/ aftermarket clock, thru 180 degrees it reaches slightly over 130 mph

therefore we dont even have a direct one to one conversions before even considering changing from kilometres to miles or visa versa. see below:

( 62.1 mph = 100 kph )

Lads I think what we're trying to say here is that the scale on the whitedial kit differs from the original dials.

If the scales are a mismatch recalibration is needed.
If the scales match - a needle moving jobbie (*like Daz describes*) will work.
